Got real confused when Geralt of Rivia was named the King in the North.

And, there is a sword called Longclaw in Witcher 3.

Arya, Jon and even Needle are included in the new expansion (as well as others in the main game).

For example, there's the dead dwarf that looks like a pretty clear reference to Tyrion

Pair that with the mod that changes the model to give it that GoT look and the new moon armour from HoS and hey presto. The king in the-I mean the white wolf

He don't have a white hair, but he's father have.

Haha, yeah! My friend is working through the new expansion in The Witcher 3 and we both instantly made that connection!

It really took me off guard for like half a second! As a quick plug for you and your friend, if you haven't, read the Witcher books. It'll help tide you over for Season 7!

Can confirm, they're super fucking good

Just finished Sword of Destiny. Fucking fantastic. The end had me tearing. Especially when I remembered that special scene in the game when certain someones meet again. I wish I had read the books before playing. Makes you appreciate the games a hundred times more.

It really does! Tower of the Swallow is out now too btw in case you haven't heard (sword of destiny released before it in the UK at least)

I started reading the books before witcher 3 came out after discovering the series with the first witcher but they aren't all out in English yet. Getting hype for next year with lady of the lake finally finishing that off before season 7 of game of thrones and, fingers crossed, the winds of winter

The similarities between these two lores are mind bogginly similar. Were Andzrej and George RR inspired by an older work of literature or was one inspired by the other? And how crazy is it that GoT is arguably on of the best shows of all time and the witcher, one of the best video games of all time.

They were/are allegedly friends and they've released the books around at the same time, with Sapkowski's witcher starting off a year earlier before Game of Thrones.

So... conjunction of spheres = Geralt travels to Westeros confirmed?

They were/are allegedly friends

Really? That would be a mindfuck if I ever heard one.

Not really. The SFF book world is close-knit. Most major authors run into each other at this con or another.

Their most well-known works being developed side by side. Sapowski is Polish, GRRM is American. To my knowledge these series are the books that made both of them "major" authors. It's just a bunch of stuff that had to line up for what what /u/cleverrguy said to happen.

This article in Polish states that GRRM has indeed read some of the Witcher books and that the two authors have met at a con in Czechia.

Ciri could just take him there.

I don't know how much of an effect it had on the two authors, but the original King in the North was Coel Hen, a Cumbric king charged with defending the northern british frontier (including hadrians wall) by the Romans when they pulled out of their british territories.

I know Andzrej was inspired a lot by Polish mythology, and GRRM has said his main inspiration was the War of the Roses, I think.

The Polish mythology is what really makes the Witcher games special, I think. It just has so many great monsters and concepts. Skyrim seems kinda "meh" compared to that. When a dragon shows up in W2 things get real, in Skryim you kill them like they are big flying rats.

I have this daydream of playing the Witcher, except that the setting is Westoros instead of the Witcher setting. An open world Game of Thrones RPG would be amazing. Also, I know there was already a Game of Thrones video game, but it wasn't very good.

Skyrim is even closer to GoT than the Witcher series. For good reason too.
