Is this like a TrackMania... tournament? I think that in and of itself is kind of a fail.

It's not a competitive game... what's the objective of it? Drive around the track and don't fuck up? Apparently you don't even race against other players like you would in games like Gran Turismo or Forza. Not to mention that racing games are already the least popular competitive genre in the eSport scene in general.

Probably the dumbest game I have ever seen attempted to be made into an eSport. People are just grasping at straws these days it seems. Can't cut it in the popular eSport driven games like MOBA's, FPS, RTS, or CCG's? Sure just go drive around a track against nobody and do some cool flips and spins and call it an eSport. What's next? People going head to head in Diablo 3 seeing who can clear greater rifts faster? It's actually comical at this point.

    LOL

Trackmania is one of the most competitive games I've ever played, the skillcap is incredibly high.

This shows that you clearly know nothing about the game.

You realise that it had tournaments before all the most popular esports that exist right now?? This game is practically designed for competition. Not that you know that because you never played it.

This stream had over 20k viewers earlier today. The clip was from a warm-up run. 4 people race on a couple maps against each other for points. First to 120 points wins. Trackmania can also be a very hard game to play well.

At least know what you're talking about, before talking bullshit.

These people are running world record pace times every single lap. That shit takes like 200 attempts for a regular pleb to do. Of course its competitive. Its about finishing the race the fastest. I know right, the objective of a racing game is to be the fastest? Who would've thought.

Next we'll be watching a bunch of plebs sitting in some arena trying to kill the the opponents nexus first.

I'm sure it does take skill, but just because something takes skill doesn't make it a viable eSport. Speedrunning games also takes skill but makes a horrible spectator sport and nobody wants to sit there for hours watching someone speedrun a game in a crowd of a bunch of sweaty neckbeards while some guy commentates the thing trying his hardest to make it exciting. This is something that belongs exclusively on Twitch along with the speedrunning channels and all the other games that "take skill" and not in giant arenas with crowds of people trying to turn it into an actual eSport.
