Not sure why you were downvoted, you are correct, RAM, as we all know stands for Random Aqueous Memory, it uses water within the modules in order to keep it cool while running. When the water is heated beyond what it should be, it expands, creating a popping sound as the ram modules expand and increase in capacity.

Also you'd need to pull the CMOS battery or batteries.

I wouldn't recommend doing to the hard drive though. In theory everything else should work.

Depends. HDDs have air holes so getting water in there would be really bad. Even if you completely dry it there would still be some salts and minerals on the platter.

Even a bit of water/humidity between CPU and cooler would evaporate when you turn it on. Worst case the heat paste gets repressed by the steam.

Also corrosion.

SSDs would probably be fine though.
