I've actually never been to comfest despite moving here over ten years ago.

As an outsider it just sounds like a dirty hippee fest. But really what is it?

What goes on down there other than week advocates, body paint, and ugly boobs?
(I'm purposefully being obtuse here, but really this is all I ever hear about)

Is there special food vendors? Beer specials? Bands? I really no nothing. Someone educate me

People generally do comfest wrong I think. It's really just what you make of it. For me, I like going there in the evening with a few friends, sitting in the grass and watching live bands play. Saw some good jazz bands a few years back (the past few years the weather has been shitty). Its just a chill place to go and hang out, nothing spectacular. It seems to bother a lot of people tho

Usually a few stages with live bands (saw The Floorwalkers at Comfest several years ago and really enjoyed their show). A lot of food trucks set up along one side of the park. The usual sort of beer tent setup with several to choose from. Several long aisles of vendors selling art, clothing, the usual stuff you'd expect (pipes/glassware), but also some unusual vintage things. One year I found a vendor selling 1960s-1970s beer bottles cans - most were empty, but some were actually unopened! Overall it's not an incredible, life-changing festival, but people on this sub seem to take it way too seriously. It's a fun way to check out some art, listen to live bands, maybe grab a few drinks, and do some people watching.

you forgot about the topless women.

Yeah it's basically a dirty hippie fest, and that's why I love it. Free music, a giant party, and running into people you haven't seen in years. If free music and socializing doesn't sound fun, or if you haven't been in town long enough to run into long lost friends, maybe you won't enjoy it as much as the rest of us, but that's what I get out of it.

As long as you enjoy it.

I am pretty certain I'd hate it :).

As someone who doesn't do drugs or get drunk in public anymore I feel like I'm too old for the shit and my kid is too young.

I'm going to fall into the reddit trap and assume you're being serious and not trolling, so if you are, jokes on me I guess.

I've lived in Columbus for 30+ years and have gone to Comfest multiple times so I imagine I'm going to come across as stodgy and curmudgeonly with my response:

ComFest has changed quite a bit over the years. In it's infancy it was more festival-esque than anything else. Sort of counter-culture, more hippies less hipsters, and much smaller in scale. I'd say it was maybe 1/4 of the size it is now. And it was just Saturday and 1/2 of Sunday.

Some time in the mid to late 90's it began to grow and expand. More music was introduced for entertainment and the number of vendors exploded.

By the early 2000's (to me) it started going downhill. It became less counter-culture and more 1st semester liberal college douche (to steal from South Park). And the drinking and drugs began to really take off. There was always weed, shrooms, and such, but people were more discreet about it because the hippie parents liked to bring their kids. The ages of the attendees started to skew milennial, and it became the hipster frat party that it is now.

I dislike ComFest because I remember what it used to be and what it is now pales in comparison.

Actual answer: It's a multi-day party with acceptable open container and lax drug enforcement, and occasional faux-hippie accouterments like dreadlocks, exposed boobs, natural oils and such. Lots of music, long beer lines, okay food. Tons and tons of sanctimonious self-righteousness.

I've been once. A few vendors, some music and long lines for beer and toilets. It's fun to watch the drunk people dance and there is some good food. But it isn't enough to make me deal with the crowd.

Sounds like the typical response.

I'm surprised that someone hasn't brought up the fact that Columbus allows women to go topless in public and that ComFest tends to bring that out. That always seems to bring out to trolls in this sub. You're missing that entire angle of the argument why this city needs this event to somehow satisfy their troll needs.

Now, on the other hand, as others have stated, "Dirty Hippy Fest" is pretty much on point.

I haven't been there in over 10 years and don't miss it a bit. The reminder that it's Comfest time just tells me it's a good weekend to get out of the city..

In all fairness, the ones that are topless are never the ones you want to see topless. They may be the queens of the trailer park, but seriously. Who wants that?

Now, on the other hand, as others have stated, "Dirty Hippy Fest" is pretty much on point.

That seems to be a universal consensus.

What's your plans for the weekend? Want to ditch these losers and play 18?

[–]Vayate 0ポイント1ポイント  (3子コメント)

The idea behind Comfest is to get the hippies drunk and high enough that they're willing to do the paperwork to register to vote. The "Com" part of Comfest doesn't actually stand for "community."

Half dirty hippies, ther other half is a mix, but they are all drunk and/or high

[–]steach91 -2ポイント-1ポイント  (4子コメント)

So exactly as I pictured it. Lol

I love you. You should come to Comfest.

[–]steach91 -3ポイント-2ポイント  (2子コメント)

I'm sure you can find some dirty crack whore elsewhere.

[–]impshial 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

I could. very easily. But I want you.

I can only imagine you are accustomed to a life of longing and disappointment.

You'll be fine.
