His hair looks like a wig from an SNL sketch.

He only had the commercial break so they didn't have time to glue it on.

If you're a portion of society with a higher chance of being a victim of violence (whether of different ethnicity or sexual preference) I don't see why you wouldn't want to support the 2nd Amendment. It is there for you.

Learn about firearms. Get past the fear mongering and the emotional appeal thrown at you when it comes to firearms. Use your reason.

There is such thing as responsible gun ownership.

I'm not pro-gun by any means, but if an often persecuted minority wishes to defend itself then I'm all for it.

One of the driving forces behind early gun laws was to stop persecuted minorities from fighting back.

Fuck yea! My brother-in-law is gay, and he is getting his license to carry. More power to him!

How does this stop the bullet from the surprise shooter?

The surprise shooter chooses a different target where firearms aren't present, like a gun free zone.

It doesn't, but nothing else will either.

For everyone getting all gung ho about this, you aren't allowed to carry guns inside places where alcohol is served.

you aren't allowed to carry guns inside places where alcohol is served.

"Not being allowed" is not the same as "not able to". If you're carrying concealed, no one needs to know, and if something goes down and you nail the bastard, no jury will throw the book at you. Probation, maybe.

Yes you are. In NC unless there's a conspicuous sign saying otherwise, concealed carry holder can bring his weapon in a bar. He can't drink though, can't concealed carry with any alcohol in your blood anywhere iirc, can't carry at a protest or public demonstration either.

Edit: having trouble reading through all the laws to find you the exact statute but it was all over the news a few years ago and people were expecting mass mayhem. Turns out CCW holders aren't depraved lunatics like everyone expected.

Supposedly it's in NC house bill 937 somewhere but I'm tired of digging through that shit.

Classic conservative troll who accuses people of homophobia when they disagree with his political points.

Point out one instance of him accusing someone of homophobia for disagreeing with him. He spends most his time criticizing the left for doing that.

The difference is that there's a huge portion of conservatives who take political stances on what other people should be allowed to do in their country based on their personal homophobic beliefs.

When there's a war the real winners are arms manufacturers. Been that way ever since we learned to make weapons.

Gun must be in his PURSE FIRST!

So a Christian gay man who isn't really comfortable being gay wants to defend gays from a Muslim gay man who isn't really comfortable being gay?

This highlights one of the problems with the whole "good guy with a gun" belief. The good guy with a gun could just as easily be the bad guy with a gun. Suppose the first time Mateen went to the club he was carrying a gun. Was he there to protect the patrons or kill them? How do you decide?

Muslim/Christian, Republican/Democrat, Red Sox/Yankees

Everybody believes they're the good guy.

Simple. Ya just ask 'em, ya dingus.

Suppose the first time Mateen went to the club he was carrying a gun. Was he there to protect the patrons or kill them? How do you decide?

In this hypothetical, did he pull out his gun and start shooting people? Then he was there to kill them.

Not pulling out his gun and shooting doesn't mean he wasn't intending to kill them, but you can't know peoples intentions. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

However, not allowing anyone to carry makes an area a ripe target for someone who isn't interested in following the law in the first place. Most mass shootings take place in places where law abiding people are not allowed on paper to carry weapons.

There are plenty of would-be mass shootings that never achieved "mass" level precisely because there was a CCW, off duty cop, actual cops etc who ended or de-escalated it before it became a massacre.

If you know you are going to be the only one armed, you're more likely to not use cover, not take your time making sure you yourself are safe while you attempt to murder indiscriminately. You can walk around with impunity, at full height and visibility and pick people off.

It's also worth noting that as soon as a mass shooter is faced with a fire fight, they almost all commit suicide, surrender, or get taken out by a barrage of police fire. I can't think of even one who escaped. When they go in there, they know they aren't getting out, so you're dealing with someone who in the most literal sense has nothing to lose.

So when other guns are on the scene, things go less badly and end sooner.

So when other guns are on the scene, things go less badly and end sooner.

That's an interesting theory, but in fact, I have never seen a situation where I thought "you know what, I wish there were more armed strangers here." Once the shooting starts, who is the good guy and who is the bad guy? Did you see who pulled the gun on whom?

I fully support armed security (I'm not sure if you realize there was armed security at the club that night). But random people carrying guns is just a recipe for disaster.

Google "Robber shot". I was going to post some links but there's so much out there.

And mind you, most people are not comfortable handling firearms let alone carrying them. Those who are, those who invest in training and CCW permits, they are exactly the kind of people who should be carrying. They have on average a ridiculously low instance of violent or criminal activity compared to the general population, and it's not as is having a CCW absolves you from misusing a firearm.

Getting a CCW involves giving up your fingerprints and all sorts of other hoops. People carrying legally are nothing to worry about. Depending on where you live, you could easily walk past 10, 20 people carrying concealed every day and never know it.

In my state, you don't need a CCW permit or a class. And the guy in front of me at the grocery store the other day who had a pistol tucked in his waistband did make me rather nervous. No way is he a responsible gun owner. But he's legal in my state.

If people have adequate training and licensing, I am fine with that person carrying a gun. But that adequate level of training and licensing, in my view, is being a peace officer.

that adequate level of training and licensing, in my view, is being a peace officer.

Cops have the most stressful job in the world except maybe soldiers. And even cops miss. A lot.

Open carry to me is even better than CCW, I was just pointing out that those who jump through CCW hoops are extremely unlikely to ever be a threat to innocent people.

The guy with the gun tucked into his waistband - why did he make you nervous? Was he being aggressive or making a scene or otherwise doing anything to put you off? Or was it just the fact that he was armed?

Would you have felt better if he'd had a proper holster, or if he was carrying concealed?
