And I thought I was having a bad day. Grass is always greener, I guess ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Good riddance, you prick.

looks at other options

Care to stay on for a bit, Dave? Wouldn't hurt you much.

Moved from the UK to Australia 6 years ago. The lack of regrets i'm having about it right now could fill Wembley.

My brother left and is back for a year, he voted out the bastard.

Yeah he clearly doesn't want to have the legacy of this shit storm on his shoulders.

Well i mean he started it regardless of whether he stays or not, so ultimately he his responsible for what happens

From what I understand he basically allowed this to happen to secure his own political position under the assumption that nobody would actually vote to leave.

Arrogance is a bad trait for any leader to have, let's be honest.

Sweet mother of god I should go to bed and accept that maybe this won't affect me that much as an American but...holy shit

A political disaster - worse than Trump!

Imagine that!

I miss last June when we were celebrating gay marriage, June 2016 sucks

2016 sucks

Don't use more words than you have to

This will go down as one of the worst political mistakes in history.

Wait 'till November for that award.

I don't know, I think it's ultimately probably a good thing for the UK to regain its sovereignty. I'm moderately pro-EU, but the organization itself is just so bureaucratic and disconnected from average people. I think Europe would be much better off as a collection of cooperative nation-states than an 'ever closer union.' Norway and Iceland refused EU membership 20 years ago and they're both doing fine. Hopefully this will prompt some soul-searching within the EU about the best path for reform.

Another thing is country's rights to control their borders, and I think this is ultimately what tipped a lot of people to vote for Leave. England is not a big country geographically, about the size of New York State but having 3x as many people already and shortages for housing, schools, and social services as well as traffic jams in the south. It's important in my book for a country to be able to manage who comes in, which was virtually impossible in the EU.

We already control our borders mate, we're not part of the Schengen Agreement and this does not change that AT ALL. If anything we are in a weaker position and may have to negotiate a new deal based on free movement of people like Norway and Iceland. This is the kind of bollocks that lost the referendum. I blame the lack of clear information given on all parties.

As someone from the UK, can someone explain to me the hatred behind David Cameron?

People dislike the conservatives because stwreotypically they are seen as posh, elite career politicians , who don't care about poor people, and help out their banker friends. I disagree, but that's the view. They were popular until after thatcher in the 80s. They only bounced back in the 2010s in England because labour lost its way, and started too many wars fucked the economy etc. .. they are seen as strong on defence and crime and immigration and a safe but harsh (spending and tax cuts) hand on the economy. Middle class voters mostly. And unionists / euroskeptics.

You know how both Canada and Australia got horrible A-named Prime Ministers that seem to be universally reviled by young people, particularly those who like strong social policies and environmentalism? He's like those two, but not quite as horrible.

[–]Cipriano_Ingolf_Oha 68ポイント69ポイント  (41子コメント)

Whatever your political allegiance, I think it's unlikely this will be a good thing for UK politics.

Its certainly going to be chaotic... I've got my popcorn ready on this side of the pond.

I'm in Australia being kinda worried for my family back home.

Still got the popcorn though.

It's going to be chaotic. Scotland may push for another referendum to leave the UK.

I'm surprised they haven't started rebuilding Hadrian's Wall already

Sinn Féin wants to hold a unification poll too. It's less likely to pass than Scotland's independence, but it's still a strong sign that England fucked up.

Getting rid of Cameron is certainly positive in my book? But isn't it just a matter of the party picking a new PM or do they have to do an entirely new vote?

[–]Cipriano_Ingolf_Oha 3ポイント4ポイント  (2子コメント)

The party is still in government so it's the party, not the general public, that vote for the next PM.

I disagree, Cameron was yet just another cut from the same cloth as those before him. Not dealing with the issues that's been plaguing our countries for years.

His time was up two years ago, I for one am glad his days are numbered

Except it wasn't up. The torries were reelected, regardless of political affiliation that has to be respected. This truly does have terrible consequences for the UK. The United States and UK are both having their conservative parties being embarrassed by the far right wing. This is simply fucking unbelievable , I say this as a liberal, not in a good way.

I don't blame him for going with the vote, it's just that election was apathy in democratic form.
People are so tired of the rhetoric & the childish swipes they take at each other, the divide between the classes is getting bigger than ever & that's very worrying.

Look at how many counties results today were very close, the overall result being a different of what, 3%? That's a true reflection of the divide & it's been coming for years.

By the way I do agree , it's very embarrassing, it's been allowed to happen because the crumbling society (which I thought was clearly evident) hasn't had the attention it needs.

Whatever's going to happen , let it be a lesson to future generations

Yeah.. A lesson to vote from what I've gathered. I've heard that the older population carried the leave vote, is that true? Is there any statistical data on the demographics of the vote?

[–]Cipriano_Ingolf_Oha 1ポイント2ポイント  (5子コメント)

I don't personally like Cameron but the major issue is of who the Conservative party replace him with. Can you imagine a Britain under Boris?

I can not , no. It would be like a horribly real version of 'Have I got news for you' I know it's unrealistic , but a complete reform of the political hierarchy would be nice

I won't have to "imagine" it, it's almost certain that it's going to be Boris.

[–]Cipriano_Ingolf_Oha 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Unfortunately I think you're right. The idea is frightening as he really isn't the leader you'd want negotiating our exit from the EU.

As a British citizen here, the vote result is pretty disappointing considering half the British Population didn't even know the consequences of what they voted for.

A new Prime Minister will be interesting though.

The scary thing is no one knows whether this will benefit or destroy the UK. It seems too much of a risk that shouldn't have been taken. This is history in the making. Crazy.

[–]Seekzor [

Almost all experts say this will be a disaster. It's a bit like saying we don't know if manmade climate change is real or not.

It seems like everything happened in a hurry.

It did not really, They used scare tactics, blatantly lied and used peoples misunderstanding to their advantage.

Hmm, sounds familiar

I just can't put finger on how it could be familiar...

It was scare tactics.

Every YouTube video, advert: 'Staying in the EU will mean less jobs for your children' etc etc

Every TV advert break, 2-3 EU adverts to influence the nieve

Sounds familiar. Isn't that always the way it goes. One party looking to take advantage of ignorance, pumping out misinformation and another more informed party struggling to understand what happened...

Neither side really knew the consequences of what's happening. It's going to be a fun couple of years for you lot

72% of 18 to 24-year-olds backed a Remain vote. This statistic alone speaks volumes. Now we'll have to shoulder the consequences of the old who will be gone in 10-15 years anyway.

I'm 17 myself, it saddens me that I didn't get a say at all on my future.

I explore you to not loose heart. I feel for you, I'm 33 and I am saddened too but you can still influence our future. Remember how you feel now and make sure to be a voice of action amongst your peers in the coming years. As a country we are going to need you!

So, the naive and inexperienced voted to stay.

This points to Brexit being a good thing.

It is asinine that so many on reddit gives such value to people under 20 but calls "old" people dumb. It really shows lack of maturity.

I'd guess more than half, if anyone in the big seat had genuine concerns for the 'little man' they'd have seen this coming for years.

This to me is more a result of pent up frustration & lack of belief in a future. The political system here in the UK is broken, it's outdated and this here is the result

lack of belief in a future.

This may be true, but it would stand to reason that young voters have a greater stake in that future, and they overwhelmingly rejected the movement to leave. They had far more trust in a future with the EU than without it.

... yeah but who do you have to pick from for your new PM and cabinet?

Looks like it's Boris instead

Please God no. Imagine Boris negotiating with Europe. They would laugh him out the door.

Don't worry Boris and Trump can be friends. They can frolic in the fields while holding hands!

Don't get me wrong Boris is a damn sight better then Trump. There is no comparison to that dank meme of a man.

Dude the Donald supporters will latch onto him and make him a massive meme. Expect weird fanfics too.

Worst PM in british history

in the next 2 years we can expect:

A New General election,

A New Scottish Referendum and,

A Northern Irish Referendum on the way...

he will be the PM responsible for the end of the United Kingdom

The EU is going to end up with a net gain of two member states thanks to him.

Net gain of one.

Strictly speaking, with the UK leaving the EU and hypothetically Scotland going independent and joining it, and Northern Ireland just unifying with Ireland, isn't that a net gain of 0?

Ireland is already a part of the EU. And I doubt Scotland makes it in, too many negative precedents if that happens.

EU for the most part would gladly let Scotland in to stick it to the UK. It's Spain that will be the holdup don't want to be encouraging Catalonia with ideas secession can be allowed.

At this point it'd be more like England and Wales seceding and not Scotland.

I can't help but feel like the UK has gone through a lot worse than a political disaster.

no it will literally be the end of the uk.... if scotland and northern ireland leave.... or even gibraltar says fuck it....

That's the end of the UNITED kingdom.

The Gibraltar Referendum 2017: "Vote Remain" Vs "Fuck It"

Why would it not be the United Kingdom anymore? Genuinely asking. Because if a state leaves the US we're still the US.

Yes but if 48 States leave, what then? If NI, Scotland vote to leave that would mean only England and Wales are left. Not so much a United Kingdom then hey.

I think we could get by with just California Texas and maybe New York. But I see what you mean.

If all the states left... we would cease to be the United States in every sense of the word.

It's going to take some getting used to, to scroll to England/Wales instead of hitting 'End' and clicking United Kingdom.

Over 60% didn't vote to leave the EU. I still strongly believe he was right and would be the best person to negotiate. I don't like the guy but look at the alternatives. Imagine how anyone who represented the Leave Campaign negotiating with Europe, they'll be laughing in their rejections of any and all concessions.

What an odd day this has turned out to be

What even is 2016 doing

Canada should replace the Queen with Gordie Howe.

Holy crap. As an American, I've had a hard time wrapping my head around what the Brexit really means. The Prime Minister resigning from his position over it definitely ups the ante in my mind.

Maybe it's time for the Queen to take over.

I hate that cunt but this is only going to get worse now, I'm getting off ASAP

Right? Who the fucks gonna take over?

[–]Hououin---Kyouma 9

I suppose its gonna be Boris Johnson 2K16. Shortly followed by Trump getting elected. Then world war three.

Might be the first World War where siding with Germany against America and Russia is a good idea.

I honestly can't take Boris seriously. The man is a clown.

That fucking cunt of a wolf in sheep's clothing... Boris

Pound has dropped 10%(ish). Cameron has resigned. Firage has also been caught lying about the budget on Good morning Britain.

Well it's been an amazing 3 hours so far.

Who is going to fill his place? ;-;

The UK is in a very difficult position now, and I can see why he's resigning so he doesn't have to deal with it. Good luck to the next PM!

Man, talk about deep end learning for the next guy

This is gonna be a huge shake up. We'll have to wait to see if the British public have made the right decision in the long run.

Well UK you've sure made this night quite interesting. I expect to awake to even more chaos and confusion.

ELI5: Why is Cameron resigning?

He was a leader of the Remain campaign. He did not want a Brexit.

He would rather leave now than stay and take leadership of something he thinks is a bad idea.

Same reason that some Captains will abandon ship and let the passengers sink.

Cameron is trying to get the fuck outta dodge.

Completely stunned to hear this. Looks like he already has resigned.

A new PM at the same time we get a new US President during a time when both nations are unstable.

Sorry in advance, middle east.

What a legacy he'll leave behind. Literally worse than Blair.

jesus fuck did not any of these companies and politicians not clearly see the that people were going to vote to leave the EU??? fookin blind man could have seen it. it almost feels like the government officials did nothing to prevent it because they want to see people crawl back to the EU if / when things go to shite.

Question for Brits: given that almost all of Ireland and Scotland voted to stay with the EU, is there the chance referendums are held in these countries regarding independence? Wouldn't that be the worst possible scenario for England?

I love a display of nationalism just as much as anyone, but this seems like it could have horrible economic ramifications.

Scotland were well in favour of leaving and Ireland and Wales will take a huge hit without EU funding. They will all leave. The UK is dead.

Scotland was 51/49 last independence vote, if they make another one there's no way they're going to stay.

How have PM resignations usually affected the UK?

You vote for a party not a PM so the party picks a new one. That's it. Blair resigned and we got Gordon Brown for years. Nearly always a cabinet member ,usually chancellor or deputy pm.

Camerons taking his ball and going home!

It's important everyone doesn't panic. This is how recessions start. There's still 2+ years to go and Cameron won't be gone until Oct. Take a deep breathe

We will never know but I think he would've left if it was a remain as well. He wasn't standing next election and you have to get the newbie in a position of power to consolidate before a general election anyway. Shame though. I voted out and for Cameron and honestly thought he would've been around until 2017/18 either way. But overall if this is the price for an accountable elected government making laws for their citizens then this is the price.

We're going to take an economic hit, regardless of funds and assets that the UK holds. Investors don't trust possibilities. They're reactive. This could be a real problem.
