The people who gravitate toward the "manosphere" (I can't speak to MRA specifically) are, for the most part, tremendously insecure, vulnerable, and wounded. It's more of a loosely associated group of people with personal vendettas against women than it is any kind of organized movement... just look at their treatment of female conscription as a perfect example: they were all for it as long as they thought it would piss off "SJW's." When feminists roundly came out in support of it they backpedaled, claiming drafting women would make for an ineffective military. Opposing feminism and broader liberalism at any cost is priority one for these guys.

The women who gravitate toward the red pill and the manosphere are no different. They have a lot to prove, and they see being antifeminists (how unexpected!) as a way to get attention through shock tactics. But you'll notice, they rarely if ever personally follow the lifestyle they prescribe for women: "well yeah y'all should be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen, but I've given that up to be an advocate so I need to have a voice and a career... its for the greater good." No-one will ever advocate for the oppression of a group to which they belong unless they think they're somehow above their membership, and I think that's what's happening with these goons.

The only place in the manosphere that wants women barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen is /r/theredpill and sometimes mgtow.

That's not really a common idea with PUAs and MRAs.

When I look at the rpw sub, they seem pretty quiet to me. It seems like they just want to be stay at home moms who are more than willing to let someone one else make the hard choices. I'm from the Midwest US and they don't seem all that different from the moms of home schoolers here. You know they'll talk shit when they get home about how misguided and wicked you are but they will be sweet and polite to your face come hell or high water. Which is fine by me, honestly, just as long as they don't actively try to effect other people's lives in an attempt to make everyone live like them.

Most the women you describe can find camaraderie at church, 4H, etc. If those types of women looked at TRP they would probably be disgusted. To delve deeper into that subculture would entail some sort of unresolved anger or misogyny.

Sure, but they might not be religious, so church might not work for them, despite the fact that they would probably agree with a Southern Baptist or Wisconsin Senate Lutheran on gender roles between a married couple. Or they might just want a community on reddit that suits there interests, idk. And yeah, I'd sure hope that they'd be grossed out by a lot of TRP stuff but they might also agree with a lot of it. They seem to me like having been the kinds of girls who were always quiet and shy and never understood the popular girls who they thought of as sluts. And then, when they read the Red Pill ideas, they think of that girl who dated the boy they secretly were crushing on and go 'yeah, that sounds like her. They aren't talking about me though, I'm the right kind of woman and thus, special.' And that has a definite pull, to belong and be special.

It's exactly this. They don't exactly come across as shy to me, but then again, maybe somebody like that would feel more comfortable as an anonymous internet persona.
