Ugh, that trigger discipline makes me sad

Valid point, I promise I'm much more cognizant of it when I'm on the range. No round was chambered/the magazine was empty and I was trying to keep both my phone and beretta relatively dry while water was getting in my eyes, leading to the lapse. No excuses when it comes to gun safety though so I'll be better in the future!

EDIT: changed 'clip' to 'magazine' for spann0r

EDIT 2: Trigger discipline counter as of 1:23ET: IIII

Trigger disciple is reddit's favorite thing to harp on with any gun related post.

It's like the most important rule next to where it's pointed

Really? I would think having it unloaded when you don't need to shoot it would be more important.

EDIT: Oh boy. I see there are some people that took gun safety training a little too literally. There are people here that literally believe that a gun is loaded even when it's not loaded.

"Is the gun loaded?"

"Always"

"But there are no bullets in it, and the barrel is empty"

"Nope. It's always loaded!"

"I can see right through the barrel, there is literally nothing in it."

"Nope! It's loaded!"

"I just took the gun apart and here is the barrel. See. Nothing in it."

"IT'S LOADED! I WILL HEAR NOTHING MORE OF IT! LEAVE ME ALONE!"

EDIT2: Here's a question I pose some of you "a gun is always loaded" people. What if someone gave you a gun and said I will give you a million dollars if you point it at your head and pull the trigger. You can do whatever you want to the gun beforehand. You can take the bullets out. You can inspect it. Take it apart. Clean it. Whatever. Would you not take them up on it, because "all guns are always loaded?" Do you think that you could never entirely be sure that the gun was unloaded? Even if it was a simple glock like this? No? You wouldn't take the risk to get a million dollars? You just think every gun could always have some hidden bullet it in somewhere?

Yeah, I'm sure you all wouldn't.

Nope. Every single unintended discharge I have ever seen was because somebody's booger hook was on the bang switch when it shouldn't have been. If people are going to remember only one rule, it really needs to be this one.

Booger hook on the bang switch, 10/10 terminology.

You are why gun gun owners think that non gun owners are uneducated dumbasses who don't understand how guns work. Stop it.

The gun is always loaded.

You're the asshole that no one ever takes to the range. Or maybe they just leave the range when you get there, because assholes like you shoot people on accident. This is all about staying humble and realizing that you can fuck up. Dickheads like you don't seem to realize that they can fuck up until they're serving time for manslaughter.

Clearly, being a serial shitposter on Reddit means you can't fuck up irl.

having it unloaded when you don't need to shoot it would be more important.

Why would you have it unloaded when you don't need to shoot it?

Even if you know it's unloaded you treat a gun as if it's always loaded. There's no such thing as "to literally" when it comes to the safety of something that can take a life in the blink of an eye.

Always treat it as if it's loaded. The true golden rule.

Can still go off. dry fire is a good way to practice trigger pulling but you still need to keep the aim away from anything you don't want to shoot.

Guns can still go off even when the chamber is cleared? How, pray tell, does this happen?

It's not because of that, but it's because you want to stay in the habit of not pointing it at things you don't intend to shoot. Whether it's loaded or not, you never point it at anything you don't intend to shoot.
