Republic of Ireland hero Robbie Brady - who scored a dramatic winning goal against Italy on Wednesday - is among a group of 12 Manchester United Academy graduates at Euro 2016.
The 24-year-old Norwich City midfielder headed home on 85 minutes to seal a famous 1-0 victory over the Azzurri, also clinching qualification to the knockout stages to face France in the last 16.
It was a fantastic moment for Brady and Reds fans were delighted to see a former youth product enjoying success away from Old Trafford. Remarkably, the Irishman is one of a dozen at this summer’s tournament and all of them have progressed from the group stage with their respective nations.
John O’Shea is also an influential member of Martin O’Neill’s Republic of Ireland squad and the neighbouring Northern Ireland also have current United first-teamer Paddy McNair among their ranks, as well as Craig Cathcart, Oliver Norwood, Jonny Evans and his younger brother Corry Evans.
Marcus Rashford and former Reds goalkeeper Tom Heaton are in the England squad, which notably pitted them against James Chester and Wales in Group B. Paul Pogba is also a vital player for France and Gerard Pique is perhaps the most famous of the group after his past successes with Spain.
Good luck to each Academy graduate, past and present, in the latter stages of Euro 2016.
