the person irl that i watch it and talk about it with. my grandma

i know this is a lame post, but i am grieving, and she really really fucking loved big brother. her favorite this season was James from day 1. she once said to me "wouldnt mind if he put his boots under my bed". Lost her on sunday night, unexpectedly. right around the time when i would call her for our after bb chat.

finally got around to watching the episode that aired that sunday, and was really happy to hear meg say "who doesn't love their grandma" because she would have loved that. she loved being a grandma. and james being funny / sweet to "grandma" would have delighted her.

ahhsdkljfskdjfsdkj this is taking me forever to hit "post" because i dont want it to be like a sympathy poor me thing, but i thought maybe someone else watches with their gma and would like to hear about mine.

YOU GUYS are all so sweet. i am so happy to hear so many people watch and talk to their grandma about bb. making this post, i had no idea i would get so many people being so nice. it was just a cathartic release that i didnt know if i should actually post or not and i am so glad i did. thank you everyone, it means so much to me to hear your kind words.

Yeah there are a few toxic subreddits out there that would hate this sort of thing, but in these "smaller" subreddits we're all part of a family that loves a certain subject. /r/bigbrother and /r/NASCAR are two of the friendliest ones I've been on. I am so sorry for your loss. My Nana (great grandmother) and I were like this. We would call each other after an episode and talk about it and what was going to happen! Nana always told me that we should go on Big Brother together, but not tell anybody that she was my great grandma so that we could flip the house, hahaha. It's been a few years now since she passed away, but whenever I watch Big Brother, I still want to pick up the phone and call her. It definitely gets better as time goes on. I just wish Nana was around to see how crazy this season has been! She definitely would've hated Austwins, hahaha.

I'm sorry for your loss :( My grandfather got me into big brother, although he doesn't follow it as much anymore. I still love asking him for his opinions and thoughts throughout the season. I've never seen him laugh as hard as he did when Lawon convinced everyone to vote him out!

It may seem cheesy, but hopefully you will always cherish the memories you two made while bonding over BB :)

It's so weird to think of such huge things as life and death when it comes to our relatives when you see them doing fun, mundane things like watching Big Brother. How do you reconcile things like life and death with reality TV?

I know I felt the same way when my uncle died several years back. He absolutely loved Sons of Anarchy. He never got to see those last few seasons...how could the show just keep going on- how could life just keep going on- when I felt like my world had stopped?

My condolences for your loss. My grandparents also watch and enjoy Big Brother. My wife and I will try and go to their house as often as time permits and watch it together. It was really emotional for me when Derrick lost his grandfather last year during the show. My grandfathers in his late 80s now and life can take a turn at any moment. I'm sorry for your loss, and nothing we can say or do now heals the pain, but know there are always absolute strangers that you can confide in and borrow of their shoulder.

I lost all my grandparents very young, and all I can say is that remember the fantastic times you two were able to have together, and know that regardless of where she is, or where you are, and whether you are religious or not, the time she spent with you, gave you pieces of her you will carry for your lifetime.

My grandma got me into Big Brother back when I was a freshman in high school. We'd watch it together every summer. My senior year of high school, she died unexpectedly. That was six years ago now, but jeez was watching it that first summer without her way harder than I'd have thought.

Oh, OP. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I'm experiencing something similar with my mom. She was just diagnosed with cancer last week. She underwent a biopsy (no results yet) and as a result, is very exhausted, so I don't just call her every other day to tell her funny things about my kids, etc. This is the first year she hasn't watched Big Brother either. We started watching it together since the very first season, and watched all the rest together, or we'd discuss it on the phone after I moved/got married.

I dropped my oldest off today for his very first day of high school. It was kinda cool because it wasn't a regular academic day, but just freshman orientation with seniors who mentor them in small groups. Sorry I'm deviating from the sub, BTW. Anyhow, my son was nervous as we pulled up. But what was really cool is that all the teachers were on the steps off to the side, and all the senior mentors (in matching bright blue shirts) were standing in two lines, so each time a freshman got up to the lone to go thru, all of the seniors and teachers would hoot, holler and cheer, give high fives and handshakes and hugs (the senior girls, anyhow). It made my freshman's anxiety level drop to almost nothing. He hopped our of my car and booked it to the awaiting seniors. It was a bittersweet moment. The thing is, I wanted to call my mom right then to tell her about this, because she loves any stories about the grandkids. It was my first real glance at life without my mother: and it sucks.

I'm truly sorry you lost your grandma. I lost mine when I was 21 and it was so hard; we were really close, and she is very similar to my own mother. This is not a lame post. I totally hear you. The part about James is sooo funny. Sounds like your grandma was a cool lady. Condolences, OP.

I've been watching Big Brother since I was about 10yrs old (I'm 25 now) because my Grandma was a huge fan. She got the whole family hooked, but since she passed in 2011 I'm now the only one still watching. I have to say it was hard to watch for quite awhile because we also would talk over the phone about the episodes, I found myself sitting there after the show missing her. Hope your doing okay <3

Sorry for your loss. And you're not alone! My mother loved BB and all stars were our last season together before she died. She loves Jeanelle. I still remember her talking about how Jeanelle had a good memory because she was a waitress. My mother was a waitress. Lost her at 17. BB always brings up memories of sharing the show with my mom. Erm sorry. I just can relate, sorry for your loss, sure she was kick ass and just remember all the good memories you cherish will help during the bad times when you just really fucking miss them.
