I just noticed this comic while doing the crossword, and just, the laziness... that middle panel... Like he might as well have just scrawled "liberalz r gay" in ballpoint and mailed it in to his editor.

Where do I sign up to get paid for drawing walls and word bubbles?

He reuses that middle panel a lot. Gettin' great use outta that building shot.

yeah, it's an establishing shot. You know how movies will cut to establishing shots in the middle of a conversation?

Lools like actual Dilbert is now indistinguishable from the parody MRA Dilbert Tumblr.

Toxic masculinity in that third panel to boot

What did that mean, "Don't make me turn around and prove you wrong."?

Was it an implied rape threat?

Alice often responds with violence when provoked, so presumably the token SJW would not respond with violence as befits TRUE MEN

Adams cannot understand why anyone would hold progressive views of any sort, unless they are being disingenuous and trying to get something out of it, on a personal level.

Love the first few years of Dilbert, when it was about a basically decent Hank Hill-like loser and his screwy dog hanging out at home and trying to go through life. And now after more than a decade and a half of being lazy and washed-up, Scott Adams is referencing "white knights" and "SJWs" in his comic. How long until his Dave Sim meltdown?

How long until his Dave Sim meltdown?

"I do not believe Dave Sim Dilbert is a misogynist."

It's like whoever makes Gamergate Life did a guest comic for him, or something.

This is just amazing.

My dad reads Dilbert because he's an engineer as well. He's not going to have the slightest fucking clue what an "Ess J Dubbleyoo" is.

Because he's a grown adult.

I expected the problem to be in the subtext, but there isn't any subtext (or even a joke). I'm surprised his editors let this pass. Is the humor-impaired alt-right large enough to support them after they've alienated all of their other fans?

[–]AsteroidSparkSterling Jim Worshiper 9

They probably just have no idea what it says and let it slide because he didn't use anything on their list of bad words.

Oh God, it's perfect.

Meh, at least Jim Davis didn't pull a Donald Trump and pretend to be one of his own fans on Reddit.

I hate Garfield so much. It is such lazy trash. But I love Garfield minus Garfield with about the same level of passion. Sometimes.... sometimes I wish I'd never discovered Garfield minus Garfield, so I wouldn't have to grasp with such complicated feelings.

Anyone know if he's always been a reactionary (if not an MRA specifically) or is this a more recent thing? Because I got absolutely zero sense he was this shitty from reading The Dilbert Effect, one comic collection, and irregularly checking his strip in the Chicago Tribune.

[–]CanVox☭☭Cultural Marxist☭☭ 12

He's always been a kind of techdouche but the precise taxonomy has drifted over time. The difference is that in the past there was a kind of "wow modern office life is so kafkaesque" vibe that was both relatable and, at the time, novel. These days:

Of course: - http://blog.dilbert.com/post/140211504101/dilberts-changed-look-explained

That's right, he ran strips insulting people who take vacations approximately 10 weeks after he got back from vacation.

He got into that slapfight in the comments of Feministe back in 2011 about some dumbass shit he said about the wage gap and then tried to delete, so there's that. It is never not funny to me.

way back in the day he got criticized for having only one woman in the cast, so he added "Tina the Brittle Technical Writer". He was criticized for her only characterization being brittle, because duh. So: http://dilbert.com/strip/1996-01-01 http://dilbert.com/strip/1996-01-02

I'm not sure what the joke here is supposed to be. That Adams can't work without stereotypes?

But yeah, I think there's some reaction there. I think he's probably gotten further up his own ass over the years, especially as he's gotten blog followers who think he's somehow insightful.

EDIT: Looking at the Alice character, she's written as more competent than the men in the office (a low bar to clear, but still). She's prone to anger and violence, and her response to being subject to sexist behavior in the office seems to be the joke. Not great.

His blog is probably the best answer to that. He's maintained it for at least 10 years. I used to read it with a certain interest in quirky ideas and thought experiments, but I don't specifically remember any MRA/misogyny stuff until he started deliberately antagonizing feminists a few years ago.

It's more alive lately because he is full on friends with JuiceBro Mike Cernovich. Going to appear in his documentary about SJW Censorship and everything. Mike wrote in one of his articles that he and Adams are hated because they are both "geniuses."

Write your local newspaper and inform them of Scott Adams' long history of disgusting bullshit. If relevant, contact your HR department about the presence of Dilbert strips being threatening.

He'll 'apologize' and/or lose money quickly.

So against my better judgement, I clicked onto the next few comics. Now I don't want to shift the discussion away too much but is he really complaining about taking VACATIONS? Just reminds me of that asshole a few weeks back in regards to Crunch Time. Sorry, Adams, not everyone gets paid to draw cartoons all day...

[–]Heatth 4

Apparently he actually took a 6 weeks vacation just earlier this year. To be fair, he apparently haven't took one in 3 years and his hand was hurting. But that highlights how much of a hypocritical asshole he is.

Well, not taking a vacation for 3 years (however someone who is actually freelancing chooses to define that) is a hell of a lot easier when you're already rich and can provide for yourself and others easily. Also, he had the option all along to take weeks off starting any given day if he felt like it. Not exactly the same psychological toll that a random wage slave faces.

Wasn't the original point of Dilbert to point out the problems with this kind of mindset?

[–]gavinbrindstarHelp! I'm a spirit that can only talk through flairs!

Jesus. Dilbert has really gone downhill.
