About half the posts on /r/epilepsy are people sharing their experiences and looking for a sense of not being alone. I shared my experience, which includes imagining a devil taking control of my body. I know that's really weird, but I found this interesting as I'm an atheist. I don't think there is any convincing evidence for a god or demons or anything supernatural.
I wondered if some of the old mythology of epilepsy came from people who imagine something similar, where their brains are trying to make sense of what's happening. I explained this and asked if anyone else had something similar happen.
I was banned shortly afterward. I checked the rules, and hadn't broken any. The mods were not transparent when they banned me and gave no explanation. They didn't respond when I asked why.
The only reason I can think of for being banned is because I mentioned I'm atheist. There's nothing malicious in my post, if it's not because I'm atheist, there should be a transparent reason for the ban.
Here's my post:
I should start by saying I don't believe in anything supernatural, and I usually get seizures at night while sleeping or as I'm falling asleep. If I remember anything from a seizure, it's the very beginning; I can feel I'm losing control and I feel like I can see a blue demon controlling me. It's terrifying and realistic. This has happened since my first seizure in my teens. I read a few years later that epilepsy was believed to be a form of possession, by demons or a moon God. Has anyone had a similar experience?
