We've been getting a lot of PMs about why we don't sticky shitposts anymore. The reason is that the button doesn't do that anymore. It's no longer something that the mods are able to do.

The usual followup question is why we're not stickying self posts every half hour. The reason for that is because we like the content that users create and the culture of this sub too much to do that.

If we did that, Trump news and Trump memes would no longer dominate the front page. Two line long jokes would. We're playing by ear how we change up stickies, but I don't want to stop being a shitpost sub and I don't think self-post nondirect-links look nice, though they aren't banned and they occasionally get stickied.

I think that would honestly just look ugly. I don't like to try and fight a losing battle against the technical limitations of the internet. I prefer to adapt to situation. There are real perks about having a front page full of user chosen content instead of content chosen by me stickying it and when something does make the front page organically, it stays there longer anyways. I think adaptation is the best way to handle new circumstances. In terms of setting up a large appearance on the front page, I think the best way to do that is multiple subreddits.

Tomorrow I'm going to announce the new project of /r/The_Donald, which is going to be to bring a voice to shit lords everywhere, even when they have no connection to Trump. We're gonna find the best people with the best ideas to set up whichever shitlord subs should exist--even if it'll have nothing to do with Trump. It won't be us having presence, but it will be a very good thing for reddit and if I find the right head mods, it'll be revolutionary. I think working through diversity and adapting to it will be the best thing both for our subreddit and for our movement.
