Yes. Just as seniors and students can get discounts for a variety of reasons.

Yeah, it's called price discrimination. An example of it is why bars and clubs have girls night specials.

In this scenario I can see why OP is upset, but it's a bit different with bars and clubs; especially if the bar is known for a hook-up/dating spot. They want the venue to be comfortable for everyone and sometimes that means providing an incentive. The reality of it is that cis males behave differently than cis females in that kind of setting gender neutral pricing would create an imbalance; too many men and too few women.

Many many places offer a seniors and children discount. Is there any difference compared to sex? I my opinion, if you don't like it, don't shop there.

Not agreeing or disagreeing, but everyone gets a turn at being a child and (hopefully) a senior. Unless you are having a sex change, you will always be what you started as.

Would it be OK if it were a sale only for Asians? (Again, I don't know the answer, and don't really care, but just making comparisons.)

Women pay a lot more for haircuts and tend to earn less than male counterparts for the same work. Maybe it all evens out?

Most of the Ontario Human Rights Commission information around gender based discrimination covers issues like getting fired for being pregnant, sexual harassment, sexualized dress codes and female genital mutilation: http://www.ohrc.on.ca/en/code_grounds/sex

Not receiving a discount isn’t discrimination. It is that you didn’t get a privilege. If you aren’t aware of male privilege, this is a good primer: http://www.cpt.org/files/US%20-%20Male%20Privilege%20Checklist.pdf

If you think that feeling sucks, hopefully it results in some empathy towards what some women experience. Time magazine had a good article about women who transitioned to being men who were able to see sexism from both sides: http://time.com/transgender-men-sexism/

You state "Not receiving a discount isn’t discrimination.". You know full well what I was stating in my OP. The fact I paid 10% more for something someone else bought because of my gender is entirely different than you trying to paint me in a way where I am complaining because I didn't get a discount on my purchase like some petty individual.

I never said anything bad about you as a person or your behaviour. I am acknowledging that you feel like you weren't treated fairly, which doesn't feel good and upset you.

You didn’t pay 10% more; you paid the list price. If you had to pay additional costs/surcharges above the list price then you can say that you paid more. You weren’t penalized for being a man.
You just didn’t receive the advantage of being a woman, which was a 10% discount in this situation.

You weren’t discriminated against; you didn’t receive privilege.

It's not meant to be accusatory, more explanatory. Nobody is painting anyone any colour.

[–]random_human_on_redd 3ポイント4ポイント  (4子コメント)

But you literally ARE complaining about not getting a discount.

[–]Azumanishiki[S] -4ポイント-3ポイント  (3子コメント)

I am sorry you are illiterate to understand the point of my post. Even when I said in my main post I don't care about getting a discount. I cannot put that into any simpler terms for you to understand.

[–]random_human_on_redd -1ポイント0ポイント  (2子コメント)

No, you are complaining that you didn't get a discount because you are a man. Just admit it and move on with your life.

[–]Azumanishiki[S] -2ポイント-1ポイント  (1子コメント)

Nope. You may like benefits as a woman but some of us believe in equality. I will be filing a complaint with the Human Rights Tribunal in the comong days. "Its 2016".

Putting aside whether anything you said is legitimate or not, do you really think that a reasonable person who is being charged more than other people because of his biology is going to feel that he is privileged for the same reason?

What type of store was it? I think that will determine what people think is right or not.
