There are no women in pro play because they are generally bad and just don't reach levels required to be on a team.

Downvote me, but that's the harsh reality.

That's maybe a correct statement. May I suggest that you try to explore the reasons to why you think it's true? There are probably some elements that can explain why we see so few women in e-sports. Your initial idea is maybe true, but it doesn't offer much insight on that matter.

It doesn't offer insight because it's straight forward. While traditional sports may have whatever excuses available, in eSports no one even knows your gender until you play on a stage/get invited to tryout. There is no additional factors.

I think you fail to see some external factors. If you're interested, I'd gladly present some of them.

I think you were trying to bait something out so you could attack it and he refused to take the bait.

Not at all. I've passed the time to argue with random people on the internet. I was just asking if he was interested in my point of view, but I wont spend 15 minutes to write something to underline a vast theme like gender representation in videogames if someone just doesn't want to hear it.

All I said to him was that his initial statement could be partially true (women are currently not at the same level as men in competitive videogames) but it just doesn't go very far. You can't explain something like that with a sentence that doesn't examine deeper implications. So I fail to see how I was trying to bait something out. And in the end, everyone has his own opinion I guess.

I think the question is more about the fact that few women are cropping up to the highest skill brackets demonstrates there are some factors that hold women back, or deter them from investing enough to get that good.

What exactly is holding them back lol? In traditional sports, fair enough, but in eSports noone even knows if you're a girl or a dude until you show up to tryouts.

As I said in another comment, people can't know for sure but that doesn't matter, they can guess. I play with my girlfriend a lot and she gets lots of people talking trash and blaming her for other people's mistakes, as well as simply being sexist. They don't need to be sure you're a woman to be assholes to you, and that alone already discourages women from playing.

This, coupled with all the stigma around games being male hobbies and all that stuff, makes it hard for women to devote as much into the game as men.

It's a broad and vague subject. It's not League itself, it's gaming and the fact that gaming is still primarily a "guy" thing to do.

lol, this whole "equality of outcome should be a thing" thing you are spouting here now is bullshit. If they want to be professional lol players, there's nothing stopping them. But how many master/challenger level players are there? and how many of those are female?

I dont have numbers, but I assume its like 95-100% male. And you want to tell me that its because they have vaginas they should be in pro teams, even if they suck? BULLSHIT

Dude you are 100% projecting right now, I didn't say anything about equal outcome.

I was saying that the discussion isn't about some magical way talented girls don't get into proplay, it's about how there are reasons why there aren't many girls who get talented in the first place. Those reasons could range from social pressures to biology, who knows, that's what discussion is for.

The question is, does league of legends' ranked system stop girls from climbing to the top? Answer is no, as long as they are good enough they'll climb. Social pressures, well guess what, guys face them just as much. This discussion is as useless as the whole wage-gap nonsense.

Social pressures, well guess what, guys face them just as much.

Girls and guys face pretty distinctly different social pressures. No one's trying to say anyone has it worse like some contest.

And I'm not some wage-gap nonsenser. It's pretty evident the apparent gap exists because of voluntary behavioral differences between men and women. But one thing to consider is why those behavioral differences happen. Just like with this situation.

This basically answers your question. Its voluntary behaviour by people themselves.

People don't make choices in a vacuum.

People live in a society and that society influences them. It's not just because was a choice that it wasn't influenced by a lot of bad stuff.
