Whilst I agree with you in some part, this season wasn't the best gauge for the players we have.

I expect a lot more to come from Herrera, Schneiderlin, Memphis etc

I'm talking about almost all of our players. People seem to think they're a level above what they actually are. And don't get me started on the youth. Chances are 1 or 2 will make it, but to go off of this sub you'd think we've reproduced the class of '92 again. I saw someone say he prefers Varela as our starting right back! WTF!

I'm glad to see this upvoted. I won't be upset if we sign Embolo but I'd like to sign a winger who is more proven and in their prime rather than someone who shows potential.

I'm hoping he's to replace Memphis as our young winger with potential, as it seems Memphis is likely to leave. Then we definitely need a proven (Premier League proven if possible) right winger. IMO we should be going for Mahrez.

It's not a sure thing at all, just rumours really. Things like him shipping his vehicles back home, that and his poor first season and reported unhappiness have fueled speculation really.

He definitely has potential, but I don't think he is ready to be a prem starter yet. Watching his scout nation video I couldn't help but notice how bad the defenses were that he was playing against on a regular basis.

If people are expecting him to come in and take the league by storm then they are going to be let down in the same way Memphis let them down.

I think too many people are expecting him to as well with how they say we have no right wingers so anyone would literally work etc.

He would undoubtedly have inconsistent moments but if we are in for him, then the manager must trust that he has what it takes to succeed and be a constant feature I'm guessing. Hopefully he slots in nicely. He at least looks strong and has the physical attributes to hold his own it seems.

Andre Gomes is on the same level as Herrera and won't be an upgrade. I also like Fellainis new hair colour.

Have you ever watched him play more than a match or two? I certainly don't watch Valencia play often so I have no way of forming an opinion. What are his strengths and weaknesses? I don't rate Herrera very highly and would like to bolster the midfield and use Ander as strictly a rotation player.

I started watching Valencia when Gary Neville took over and carried on after he left whenever they were on and I was free. I didn't exclusively watch Gomes but he never stood out apart from 2 occasions but everyones probably seen them already on highlight videos. He came across as someone who is really hardworking and will chase every ball to regain possession but he was very inconsistent. I've also spoke to Valencia fans on r/soccer and they are pretty much happy to get 50m euros for him.

They speak pretty highly of him though and they watch him more than me obviously.

We just need to use what we have better! Unless a world class midfielder is genuinely available i.e. Kroos or Verrati ; we shouldn't splash millions on the yet to the establish themselves!

Yes I have that's why I can say his passing isn't great. Never said if he was or wasn't brilliant though. But to say outright he is better overall than our midfielders after this season is just naive. That's why I specifically asked you what makes him better

His passing is fine, not amazing but for a ball winning midfielder it's sufficient. That shouldn't be the basis for determining his worth. The last time I saw someone as mobile and able to win the ball back so easily was Makelele.

The fact you have to keep asking makes me wonder if you have ever watched him play. He's got a great engine, great tackler, good with the ball at his feet. He's basically everywhere on the pitch. If we bought him he'd be immediately our best central midfielder.

Schneiderlin is bascially Kante before we signed Schneiderlin and then he struggled a bit in his first year.

Schniederlin was Southamptons best player the year before we signed him.

Kante had a good season but give it another year to see if the consistency can match the level of the PL.

He's not terrible offensively at all. He's an all round midfielder who covers almost the entire pitch and drives the play from the midfield, something which we sorely lack.

I've forced myself to like Schneiderlin but I still can't. I want to like him, but I haven't been too impressed by his performance this season.

He's a beast in FIFA for me though.

Midfield is not an area we should be looking at improving in this summer window. I do not want James and we should only be looking at world class players who are un-droppable if we are trying to sign a midfielder, if any are available.

I want us to go out and sign one more experienced CB because I do not know enough about Bailly and lately too many transfers of young players that could develop have failed.

I do not think there is a problem with downvoting on this sub. The point of reddit is to upvote content you like and downvote content you don't like. We do lack discuss at times in this sub but that is on the users to generate OC that is worthy of discussion.

Signing any player for from Leicester will be a mistake. Kante, Vardy and Mahrez had incredible seasons last year but the style that Leicester play is vastly different from what everyone is moving to in the league. Plus I'd like to see it happen on a more consistent basis before we label Kante a midfielder we should go for or Mahrez a winger we should pursue. Schneiderlin was basically Kante before we signed Schneiderlin and he struggled a bit his first year at United.

Not in this case imo. he never really show progress, he got outclassed by Marital who come as striker, Martial also had bad games but u could see talent in him and danger when he was on that wing no matter who was opposition. With Memphis was pain to watch, he was so easy to defend low work rate and easy frustrated witch is not good to have such personality. Honestly i would be happy if i was wrong but dont think so.

His confidence was destroyed last season. If he can get that back I think he'll be fine. PSG really wanted him so it's not as if we were hoodwinked into buying him. There's talent there.

I don't think this is true. He will do better in a different system where its easier for him to create space for himself and he is allowed to shoot a lot.

He is definitely not an elite talent like Martial though and it looks like his ceiling is closer to Europa league than Champions League knockouts.

Top four is going to be really quite hard, despite Mourinho. League isn't what it was 6-7 years ago, the upper/mid table sides easily have the players and the managers to take points off of us - or anyone in the league, for that matter.

Look at West Ham making bids for players they'd never dream of signing before this year or last. It'll be fun to watch for fans of the league but also nervy for the other clubs I think.

The Premier League has changed so much that top 4 isn't guaranteed for any team anymore I don't think. All of the money being injected into the league is balancing the talent out. Leicester, United, City, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, & West Ham are likely to be battling and you never know when a surprise team can come along and challenge for the top 4.

I don't know, especially as regards to Leicester. I think Vardy will definitely leave and Kante will probably go too. That and increased injuries (their unbelievable injury record last season was an aberration and they will regress to the mean) will mean they will probably finish midtable. That opens one spot for us.

I really liked him about this time a year ago. Of our youngsters that made their debut in LVG's first season he was one I really like the look of. However, last season obviously didn't go well and I'm no longer convinced he'll make it with us.

I like Memphis. He shouldn't be judged too harshly based on one season with Van Gaal. Look what that man did to Di Maria for example, he turned one of the most talented creative players in the world into a mess with no confidence. Memphis also had to adapt from a much poorer league. It seems bizarre to me that some people have written him off already.

Huuuuuuuuuge difference. Falcao was coming off for what many players is a career altering injury. With Zlatan, he has shown zero signs of slowing down. At all.

Falcao lost any decent first touch, strength to hold the ball and just looked off. Zlatan will be more so if he settles in or if he doesn't at least.

Honestly not sure how great Zlatan will be for United. He's not a workhorse for one thing and the pace of the league is faster than he's ever used to lately as well.

He's got the physicality to deal with defenders but then again, he's not been harassed like he would be in the league.

Transfer fee and wages aside, I hope it's not a case of a better falcao.

Ok he's had a fantastic season indeed. But it's also in Ligue 1.

Just reserved and hopeful this works out wonderfully.

I know it was Ligue 1, but its not like he score 20 goals in that league. He scored 38 in Ligue 1, and 52 overall. 52 goals is no fluke.

Seriously, he scored 52 goals for last year. I wouldn't be upset if we signed him and he gave us 1/3 of last season's production. It's not like he will be our only attacking player banging in goals next year.

I think 10+ goals would be great if he doesn't play often. If he does, then maybe 15+ for it to be considered very good just based off preliminary numbers and not counting influence/performances etc yet of course.

I wish we had more South American players in our Academy. I know we have Varela and Pereira, but I think we could invest more into it. I feel that we could find our next hard-nose Keane-esque B2B midfielder from there.

So many players from there play with so much passion, If we could cultivate that into a passion for our club it could prove to be a tremendous outcome for us.

Note: I am not South American or Latino whatsoever. This is just merely an observation that I have

We can't though due to FIFA rules. Can't transfer anyone under the age of 18 unless:

  • The parents of the player move to the country in which the new club is located for reasons not linked to football.

  • The transfer takes place within the EU/ EEA and the player is aged between 16 and 18. In this case, the new club must fulfil various minimum requirements in relation to the education, training and accommodation of the player.

  • The player lives no further than 50km from a national border and the club with which the player wishes to be registered in the neighbouring association is also within 50km of that border.
