Silly season has returned for the 4th summer on /r/reddevils!

Most of you know the drill.

For those who don't...From today until the window closes, a transfer round-up & discussion thread will be made every day. In these threads, ANYTHING can be talked about. Any player, in or out, any transfer fee, anything!

Now, with these threads starting, this means that rumours submitted as separate posts will be removed unless they are from reliable sources!

Mourinho seems to be tapping on Verrati by sending him text messages..I see him as an ideal replacement for carrick..i guess Mou wants the same counter attacking play he used at Madrid..with xabi alonso at the heart of it and super quick wingers..

Put on that classic Jose charm, Boss. I'll say this again and I don't care about getting downvoted again. For me, Verratti is twice as valuable as Pogba. He can do things to control games that Pogba cannot dream of doing (right now).

Amidst the Verrati rumors, any news on Andre Gomes? Seems like rumors about him died down after the EURO started.

Also, City seems to be preying on Sane... What do u guys think about Sane vs. Embolo?

I really like Embolo and my Swiss friends sing his praises like I've never seen them do for another player, but I've seen more of Sane and if I had to choose between Sane and Embolo, I would choose Sane in a heartbeat.

    I'm of the opposite thought. Think we should get both. Atm Morata can't be relied upon to get 20-30 goals a season. Can split that goal scoring duties between Morata, Ibra and Rashford with Martial doing his thing on the left.

    People might disagree and say it'll affect Rashford's development but you gotta realise he's only 19 and has got to take it slow.

    He doesn't need to take it slow. He has genuine top potential and the only way he's going to refine his game is by playing as much as possible.

    Having Morata is going to get in the way of his development because he would also be a long-term signing. Morata isn't going to want to go from the bench of Juve to the bench here. He'll want to play ahead of Rashford/Martial so fuck that. I'd rather not waste 60m euros on a player of Morata's quality who I personally don't feel is anything special either. Get Zlatan and use that money for other parts of the squad and then Rashford can rotate with Zlatan for a season or two.

    I agree but the OP's scenario was what if we get Morata then what signings would you like and I replied to that. I totally agree with all your points I was just stating another scenario/possibility.

    Morata is painfully average.

    I'd rather give one of the other youth strikers time than shit millions down the drain for a Spanish Welbeck and cut off Rashford's playing time.

    We also have Rooney and Martial who can play if injuries become a huge issue. Morata was very poor last season; I dont see any point in trying to sign him esp with the fee we'd probably have to pay.

    Yeah true. All of the replies make sense. I just don't want to see us get Morata (if Jose is hell bent on him) and miss out on Ibra.

    What are you all's opinion on our supposed €100m bid for Veratti?

    How does he compare to Kanté(who'd cost considerably less if he were to choose us over everyone else, even with his release clause only pertaining to CL clubs)?

    Personally, I think that they're two different breeds of midfielders. Verrati is more of a playmaker and likes to dribble himself out of trouble.

    Kante, on the other hand, is a very similar player as Carrick with a higher work rate (defensively at least). He positions himself well and disrupts opposing team's tempo by making interceptions and getting into tackles.

    Depending on who we field, they each serve different purposes. Verrati (IMO) would play well with Schneiderlin/Blind who are more defensively disciplined, allowing him more freedom in the center. Kante, on the other hand, would probably suit Herrera (and even Schneiderlin) since he can make track back with his high work rate to cover up for them when they move higher up.
