Hi, I'm a novelty account that is designed to parody a Blizzard employee, namely a member of the WoW development team. My posts on here have mainly been to parody the (often bad) decisions the dev team has made.
Three months ago - on 30th March 2016 - I was banned from /r/starcraft for a single comment I made. This comment was inoffensive and stated as follows:
Let's be fair, it's not the first time we at Blizzard broke a game, nor will it ever be the last.
Any of you guys remember World of Warcraft? That was my doing. ;)
The excuse which their mod team made was that it was 'literally in our rules that it's against the rules to impersonate someone.'
Except it isn't.
Above is a link to the /r/starcraft rules on their subreddit wiki. Nowhere in the rules, nor on the sidebar, is it even remotely IMPLIED that impersonation is a rule punishable by instant banning. Not even on the fucking Verified Users list, which is a guide to the green checkmark flair and a list of verified posters is this even stated or implied either.
Also, the 'Not' as a prefix to my username should give a very clear indication that this is a PARODY account and therefore should not be mistaken for a Blizzard employee. That, on top of the lack of green checkmark.
Yet then, the moderator I spoke to argued that my single post constituted 'excessive trolling' which was a dangerously worded rule that could ban dissenting opinions which I've quoted below:
EXCESSIVE TROLLING RULE: Moderators will remove the submissions and comments of or ban trolling accounts. The severity of the ban will be determined by previous behavior and level of trolling. Excessive trolling accounts will be banned on sight. An "excessive trolling account" is an account that only trolls or acts contrarian and gets continuously downvoted as a result.
This rule in particular, especially the last sentence which defines an excesssive trolling account, is VERY DANGEROUSLY WORDED. It basically means if you're a new account, and people downvote you because they don't like what you're posting, you are liable to get banned.
Also, did I mention I got rudely muted by the mod who answered my message, and that I got given very rude responses by the two moderators I messaged after getting muted?
