Why is nerd culture so toxic? (self.SRSGaming)

I was watching let's play and in the suggestion box was HTC vive unboxing video.

"Sure, why not." I thought and click on the video.

A fat bald man introduces himself with joke about his man boobs. He admits he wasn't excited about HTC Vive and doesn't like VR.

Well, I'm interested. The quality of the video is very high. I'm hooked, let's see this man unbox his expensive new toy. As I watch the video I eye over to the suggestion videos by him and I see this:

WTF. I thought his channel was just for tech reviews. I instantly close the video tab and didn't bother watching the rest of his video.

This isn't my first experience of discovering a neat youtube channel and turns out to be another outlet for hate. What's with this? Why is it so toxic? We all seen bullshit on online video games, internet forums, etc. But out of all the male dominated interests I'm aware of, nerd culture is the worse.

oh my god you got duped by the reviewusatech guy too? It wasnt the vive video but I watched some vid where he reviewed some tech, i dont even remember, so i went to his channel to see what else he reviewed, and found a giant pile of reactionary bullshit.

i use video blocker to keep out the riffraff and keep my suggestions from being fucking shit whenever i DO watch an actual nice video that happens to cover feminist stuff like hbomberguy or peter coffin or anita.

Was it ReviewTechUSA? Because it sounds like him, and he's a massive pile of shit. Someone else linked it, but I can't recommend video blocker enough. It makes Youtube much, much more tolerable to browse and makes up for the shortcomings in their recommended/related videos system.

Oddly, I seem to be coming across a surprising number of geeky Youtubers who aren't pieces of shit, some of them with videos openly critical of GamerGate, Anita Sarkeesian hate, and toxic nerd issues in general. Maybe it's my pre-existing subscriptions that helps me find them.

because the nerd doesn't read books because of his porn addict 1 ms attention span, the nerd only reads imageboards, which as we all know are highly reactionary, thats where he gets his dumb opinions from
