Bethesda really has no excuse anymore.

Edit: Regardless of fun factor or quality of the games themselves, Bethesda's visuals (inc. lighting, animation, crowds/NPCs) are objectively dated. Hell, they are still using and tweaking the same engine they've used since Morrowind.

The lack of fucks given towards fallout 4 makes me wanna cry. So glad Witcher 3 is out to fulfill that massive desire for a decent RPG that fallout left me.

So.. why do you think fo4 was so bad?

[–]bigyellowoven 22ポイント23ポイント  (2子コメント)

It isn't an rpg. It's more of a tiny open world form of "call of duty apocalypse." all dialogue options led to same outcome, you were forced to basically blow up all but one faction in the main story. You were stuck with "WHERE IS SHAUN" character with no other roleplay option, and when you finally meet shaun you can basically only agree with his assholery or blow his organization to hell.

Every single area that had serious potential for some amazing interaction was just a dressed up shooting gallery. Your actions meant NOTHING, whether you go serial killer satan or holy savior of the wasteland, it didnt fucking matter except for the companion following you who would care very little unless you blow up their home or betray their organization or whatever. Your choices meant nothing. The side quests were so fucking minimal, and all the side quests that did exist were "clear this place out."

And the topping of the shit sandwich were the character builds. Bonus dialogue for certain builds basically didnt exist, and they were all STUPID generic. it was a "meh" shooter and a shit rpg. I hear far harbor helped a bit but I cant support and spend money on a game that didnt give a flying fuck about what its own genre was, let alone what the fans wanted.

Sigh. Fight ring that I was super excited to sign up for! I walk toward the stage only to realize everyone there wants to kill me for no damn reason, so I clean house and talk to the one or two npcs left standing and get my next "go here and kill more shit" mission.

Maybe the awesome robot race track out in the boonies! But, again, as soon as I got close everyone wanted to kill me. Then, again, I left the place quiet and deserted.

It's just damn impossible to go somewhere without having to kill everyone. There's nothing else to actually get involved in to break the grind. After a while I just got burned out myself.

Havent seen the robot race track, but the fighting ring was the last straw for me. I was forcing my way through, hoping for a ghoul settlement or some sort of fallout charm, and it was the first time I got excited after several hours of play.

Then they all turned on me. The conversation to get that companion was so odd and generic I just couldnt take it. Uninstalled and haven't once had the urge to try again.

It was not a bad game imho. It was just disappointing for me as I was expecting a good rpg game with solid shooter mechanics, and what we got was a good shooter game with ok rpg mechanics, which felt like a step back compared to FO3 or FONV.

In the original title there was really a lack of any motivating story, no point in having high stats except for making stuff and shooting people. Pretty much updated their engine a tiny bit and slapped fallout 4 on it, etc. Im glad they seemed to turn it around a tad for the far harbor expansion but its still disappointing they have given up so much on motivating RPGs.

Yeah, I've enjoyed what I've played so far? Maybe it falls apart at the end? Looks like I'll be trying Witcher 3 next tho. But I still gotta finish Dark Souls 2 before 3... and just cause 3... and the other 200+ in my steam library... I'm fucked.

Fallout 4 is by no means a bad game, it was just not up to par content-wise compared to the previous titles. I enjoyed the game with the 100 hours I put in, but I have no desire to return to the Commonwealth any time soon.

To compare, I sunk in +250 hours to New Vegas vanilla on Xbox.

Stop downvoting him for asking a fucking question

Ditto for bioware

[–]5JACKHOFF5 18ポイント19ポイント  (6子コメント)

Bioware kind of makes different types of RPGS though. Like the ME series, they aren't really open world adventure type of game. They are follow the main story with occasional side quests. I would say Bethesda games are extremely similar to Witcher 3 though, they have the same completely open feel.

If the next Elder Scrolls continues on the same path that the last Bethesda game did then I can't see it being as successful as past entries to the series, they need a major engine update.

And to take their Papyrus script out back and put it down.

I completely disagree.

Just because Mass Effect doesn't have a high side quest emphasis doesn't invalidate the rest of their entire library. Stuff like Dragon Age is FAR closer to Witcher 3 than something like Skyrim. People don't play Skyrim for character driven quests and good writing. People did play Dragon Age for that. Bioware was previously the king of writing in western RPGs, and they've been completely outclassed by a studio with only 3 games.

[–]BiteMyShinyWhiteAss 3ポイント4ポイント  (1子コメント)

That 3 game studio is also self published which gives them alot more freedom than BW has had since EA bought them, which is probably why all of BW top talent have been jumping ship for the last few years. Kinda makes me nervous about ME:Andromeda.

[–]shevanelcutflip 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Which is a goddamn shame because the Mass Effect universe is fantastic and I still love those 3 games (minus the last quarter of the story).

[–]zrrt1 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

You bring up an interesting point.

Back when CDPR said that they are going open-world with TW3, everyone thought it was bizarre. Their experience revolved around Bioware-type RPGs, heck, TW1 was created on a modification of NWN engine.

Yet now, after the release, no one can imagine one of the best RPGs of all times being anything else but open world.

CDPR one upped both Bioware and Bethesda. They've shown that open world can revolve around great stories, and that story-driven game can sate the desire for exploration.

[–]5JACKHOFF5 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

I agree, although i hope that developers don't feel like they have to make their game open world now. Mass Effect 2 is my absolute favorite game ever because it felt like you had the biggest impact on the story. It was not open world yet still delivered a great experience (although hardly an rpg).

Their excuse is they can pump out a new game with a barely upgraded graphics engine (and save a ton of money by doing so) and still sell millions and millions of copies. Why would they care to craft something like The Witcher 3 when they can get paid while doing less?
