Doing the rounds on Social media, rooneys suddenly not public enemy No.1. A large majority of comments about him were that he's the best passer, hes experience is essential etc. Far cry from the shouldn't even make the bench comments a month ago.

The transformation of wazza should do well for next season. He was fantastic the last few games for United. And he was class tonight. Just happy that he's not getting scapegoated. He's a damn good passer of a ball, at least hes getting some recognition for once.

Just wait til England concede a goal while he's on or he misses a chance. He'll be back to the scapegoat.

But yeah his performances have been very encouraging. Rooney pinging balls out to Martial and Embolo to cross it to Zlatan is very exciting.

Wow....I watched the match....england not great against a poor Russia team. I come here and people are fawning over Rooney? He barely stood out. This is russia ffs. They had 2 central midfielders with a combine total of 6 caps!

Is this Utd fans idea of convincing themselves Rooney is a great CM and that he should start there for us next year. He loses possession far too much with stupid passes.

It's about public perception more than what he did.

Rather than "oh it's Wayne Rooney yawn he's passed it, get him out the team." People are actually saying he's useful outside of United's fanbase.

I think your analysis is harsh, Opening game of the tournament, France didn't look their best either yesterday with their superstar XI, had it not been for a Payet masterclass they would've had the same result. I thought Rooney played well.

He does still tend to end up in strange positions. One time the ball got headed away by Russia from a corner, and Rooney and I think Walker were the 2 players back in our half 2 seconds later. Not really where I expect him to be, but I guess someone has to.

It reminds me of school when you'd run back and stand on the line because you didn't have faith in your teammates/keeper stopping the ball so you'd do it yourself.

I want him to replicate late 90's Keane. Boss the midfield, but dont be afraid to be on the edge of either box putting work in.

Yeah, he's only been playing the role for a few months though. I'm guessi g there's coaches behind the scenes working with him on it and not just saying nothing so he'll improve. Positioning can be trained, I'm excited see if Jose gets an extra gear out of him.

When you consider that the keeper was Hart, it's easy to see why Rooney doesn't trust him. Lol

Wait what? Hart is a class keeper. Every keeper makes mistakes but he is one of the best in the EPL

He played well

But it was against a poor Russian side, with little to no pressure on the ball he was able to influence the game!

I'm backing it just because I don't buy the narrative the football media pedal about players being over once they're the wrong side of 30. If Rooney is managed well he can play for a long time, regardless of his position

But I'm still not sold on him in CM, don't think he's come up against a good enough opponents since he made the switch to accurately judge him. When he does we'll see what his level is
