The same reason our most succesful season as far as scoring from set pieces Rooney and Rvp took them, Blind took them last season leaving himself out of position, Gerrard took them for scum, Lampard and Drogba took them for Chelsea and Henry took them for Arse, for some reason pro footballers can't cross a stationary ball into the box under no pressure.

Dunno if anyone's questioned his stamina (bar early season or back from injury when he looks out of shape).

I've often said he doesn't/can't work hard enough as a striker anymore, it's different from getting back to defend. In the box every run you make is mirrored by one or two giant defenders, to lose him you have to work and fight harder than him. It's not just a marathon, it's a battle between two athletes.

On the flip side watch the runs Kane makes tonight and try to recall the last time Rooney did anything like that. Every run Kane makes that we see is probably the result of a whole bunch of runs he's made where team mates didn't pass to him. He's stretched the defence and made them work to follow him and eventually he gets away.

The scouse contingent have been frustrating albeit dangerous. Should really show more quality in the final third.

But as Utd fans we should see the difference between Utd and other teams. Players streaming forward to attack, often 5-6 players in and around the box, at least 4 for most attacks.

Either LVGs system sucked or our players were too lazy to work hard enough or too slow to get up and down.

Smalling has to corral Dzyuba. You stop him and you stop Russia's main attacking threat. Hopefully he's in Smalling's back pocket for the duration of the match

I understand Sterling's inclusion, although he's highly overrated. Regarding Lallana, I don't think there's a lot of choice to be honest. Either nobody else is fit or nobody else can cope with the pressure.

Sterling's been great in the preparation friendlies and fully deserves to start. Lallana's the best option for RW. Considering Rooney pretty much has to start for Roy (something I don't entirely agree with), I think this is a good lineup for this particular match, but surely England can't face one of the top teams in the tournament with a midfield 3 of Dier, Rooney and Alli. Completely unbalanced.

Vardy on the bench is obviously the main talking point here but I think, again, considering Rooney pretty much has to start every game, this 4-3-3 is better than the 4-4-2 diamond with Rooney at the tip.
