Just like that one movie that you saw huh? You are going to pull your gun, stand out in the street and say something cool, then blast him out of his socks when he tries to shoot you...

Yep...YOU have been to the range. YOU are carrying a loaded concealed handgun. YOU have seen all the movies. YOU are going to engage this guy. YOU are going to be that hero.

YOU are going to shoot the kid behind him. YOU are going to shoot the lady through the store window. YOU are going to shoot that person that drives down the street. YOU are going to send a couple rounds zinging into the local school...just trying to get a shot at the random psycho with a gun.

Imagine 10 concealed carry people shooting up a parking lot trying to hit that one psycho with a gun. It just doesn't work like you think it does. TV/movies are not real life.

I don't want people to die in the street. Lets get rid of that gun that his friends parents have to begin with.

Make it difficult/expensive to buy a gun. Make it difficult to sell guns. Burden the system down with permits upon permits upon permits. Make ammunition incredibly expensive and difficult to get.

HAMMER people with serious jail time if they don't follow the rules.

Eventually those guns will come off the street. Not right away, but it can happen. Its realistic. There are a lot of moving parts to it and it does involve changing a gun culture that thinks of their gun as an extension of their cock. A culture that see's guns as cool and manly.

If that change needs to come by putting people into PRISON...then so be it...

So now, in reality, the NRA tells you that you need a gun to protect yourself...from the guns that the NRA told you that you needed to have to protect yourself...from the guns that the NRA told you that you needed to protect yourself...from the guns that the NRA needed to protect yourself...the bullshit spirals.

They aren't selling safety/protection/freedom....they are pushing GUNS.

Most every gun out there, started its life being sold as a LEGAL firearm...aaaaaand we end up with Shitcago 2016...LA 1988...etc...

Mass psycho's shooting up the neighborhood/school/planned parenthood is, I will agree, happening more and more... but my fear is that typical asshole that cant handle the responsibility of having that gun and will pull it when you cut him off in traffic or he gets drunk and carries it across the street to break up that loud party and pulls it on some kid that tells him to fuck off...THAT will and would and DOES happen more than some nutjob shooting up a school...

SO...you say that you need a gun to protect yourself from that guy...and somebody else thinks they need a gun to protect themselves from you...and that guys neighbor thinks he needs a gun to protect himself from that guy...etc...

Bottom line, FUCK YOUR "right". Not seeing dead Americans on the news trumps your "right" to demand that you can carry a gun in public. Eventually, the courts will see that.

Cue the "but then we have to ban cars because cars are a weapon also!" argument...blah blah blah fuck you and blah blah blah...

Nope. Grew up around guns. Old man was a cop, had a stocked gun cabinet. Was shooting at an early age. Did a little hunting and a lot of shooting for a year as a teenager living in the frozen hell Midwest at dads house. When living with single mom and running the streets, saw a lot of guns in the hands of those that shouldn't have them.

Served 6 years Marine Corps infantry. We had a couple guns laying around then...

Later as a cokehead asshole, I argued with my girlfriend about using the gun in my hand, that I had stolen from one dealer, to take another dealer hostage and make him show us where his stash is. Her pleading with my stupid ass made me change my mind. During that same period, with that same gun, a "friend", coked the gills put that gun to my forehead. He was arrested with it after carjacking somebody in the Valley and went to prison ...because of the gun.

I heard the shots just blocks away from me from the North Hollywood shootout. I have lived a majority of my life inside the city limits of Los Angeles. I, like everybody else, has heard gunfire, seen the bodies, knows somebody who has been a victim of gun violence.

I think I am a little bit familiar with guns. I don't like them. Guns are bad news. They don't make you a man.

But no...you sit there and slowly stroke your gun and daydream about getting that chance to shoot somebody...someday...you want it soooo fucking bad...you'll be the hero...you'll be the victor...you have seen all the movies...

I have a sense of REALITY.

"Far lower"...sooooo...you could still get drunk and shoot my family because you don't like the way I park in my driveway next to yours. You COULD still pull that gun in a road rage accident...

Higher carry rates = criminals that arm themselves better for the crimes.

The "stats" can be shown both ways. You cant compare LA with central Texas. You cant compare NYC or Shitcago with Montana. Soooo many things that can throw the "stats" right out the window.

The GUN is the problem. GUNS need to go away. The Govt needs to get guns out of the hands of criminals. To do that first would be to cut off the flow of guns.

That being said, AGAIN - HOW do I know, that you and your guns aren't going to hurt me and my family if you live next door to me? HOW do I know that your guns aren't going to end up on the street through break-in/theft or you illegally selling them?

WHAT PROTECTS ME FROM YOU? Do I need to get a gun for that?

Just relating my experience with guns. Keep in mind, had I been a little bit more of an asshole, I could have taken the old mans guns at any time and did whatever I wanted to do with them.

We weren't kept "safe" because he had a gun. He never had to use a gun to keep us safe.

When I was a cokehead 20 years back and had that gun, I was NOT the kind of person that should have been anywhere near a gun. For the same reasons that WE, the community, don't know if YOU could be trusted to not harm us with your guns.

What YOU will do...

Having a couple beers out in the driveway working on your brothers truck, the pukes that live across the street will start giving you shit. One may even challenge you to a fight. What do you do? Go inside and get your gun. YEAH!! That's right fucker! Nobody is gonna fuck with me and my family, I have the gun...instead of going inside, closing the blinds, locking the doors to avoid having to be in that situation. YOU will go get the gun and bring the gun into the situation. Happens every time. You gotta keep it real...right?

WHO says that YOU can be trusted not to hurt the rest of us with your gun? We just have to have "faith" that for whatever reason your wife leaves you, takes the kids, you start drinking and decide that you never liked the neighbor...and you have that gun...and you are going to tell him you don't like him...HAPPENS ALL THE TIME...

You legally carrying a concealed gun isn't about protecting your kids. Its just about having a gun...and you know it...

This seems to me like yet another example of how fucked up the military is. The older I get the more strongly I feel that mentally unstable people join the armed forces, and the armed forces turn them into total psychos.

It seems like almost every veteran I know is dealing with major rage issues, and substance abuse, or has it in their past. I have three close friends whose lives are being completely torn apart right now because of these issues.

Not all. Not by any means. A lot of people I truly respect were/are in the military. But in my personal experience... basically everyone I went to school with who served was fucked up in school, and is even more fucked up today.

Stop thanking psychos for service. Instead, start steering people toward treatment, instead of glorifying a group that destroys them.

None of us should have had that gun. Including the guy who legally purchased it to protect his cocaine.

Who says that the community can trust YOU with that gun? Who says that YOU aren't going to use it in a moment of rage? Who says that you aren't going to get drunk with it? WHO says that your kids aren't going to get ahold of it?

By the way, the only crime I actually committed with that gun was stealing it from a drug dealer. I had intent to rob another dealer with it but was talked out of it. That was pretty clear in my post. I am not the kind of person to hurt/victimize innocent people. That's just me. Call me a pussy for not wanting to hurt real people, even in the middle of an out-of-control coke binge...

Hw does the community know that YOU aren't that guy? How an the community feel safe from YOU with your gun?

THAT is the point.

Not seeing people argue trumps your freedom of speech. Not seeing people who share different opinions trumps your freedom of religion. Not seeing someone speak out against the government trumps your freedom of press. Seeing hungry people in the streets trumps your freedom to keep money. etc. etc.
