Thanks for heaping even more of a negative stigma on people that need and use these drugs to stay in the normal zone.

Take the placebo. There's a good chance that it will perform as well, but without all the side-effects.

It's great for the undiagnosed to pass judgement

Hey, you do what you feel is best for YOU. Consult with your doctors, and, after careful consideration, follow the path that suits you best.

But I would urge you to recall that you must be your own advocate, for at the end of the day, it is you, not me, and not your doctors, who will have to live with the consequences.

wait and see what these pills end up doing.. End of life is going to be torturous for all of these users. the Brain Damage is real.

There aren't as many of those people as you think. Doctors should be recommending improving your diet, working proper amounts of physical activity into your schedule, and 8+ hours of sleep. Unfortunately, there's too many people who want a bandaid rather than actually fixing their problems.

Oh come on...bi polar disorder and major depression require medications and no amount of good nutrition and sleep change that. Why persecute people that need medication by telling them they don't need medication. It is so condescending and dismissive of so much science and knowledge.

[–]malicious_turtle 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

The person you're replying to is right...in a way. Doctors are too quick to just go prescribing anti depressants to people who only have very mild symptoms of depression. A 2 week camping trip to the Rockies or Alps or something would go a lot further to curing them than any pill. Obviously someone who has depression that isn't caused by their environment or a high stress lifestyle won't show any improvement without medical assistance.

Unfortunately, those recommendations are incompatible with current american lifestyle of work first work always work work work. Bandaids and shortcuts are all most americans can afford.

Sounds like laziness. If you actually try you can work some rice, vegetables, and sleep into your schedule.

I'm too busy pulling myself up by my own bootstraps to do any of that.

Rice? If I eat rice I can almost see the fat accumulating.

To become a fat fuck you need to eat like one.

Most grocery stores do not have healthy options and people love to be stuck in their ruts "Fast Food Nation".. a few changes to their diets and cooking and body care items.. All without bullshit medications and people can change. But most of the problem is the food and the endocrine disrupters screwing up their hormones

there was mental illness before fast food came about
not saying that cant play a part though

Really? I am pretty sure to be a grocery store you have to have those options. Otherwise you could just be a Walgreens or a CVS.

THIS study, yes, but it had previously been established that the results is virtually the same among adults:

PLOS Medicine - February, 2008

Initial Severity and Antidepressant Benefits: A Meta-Analysis of Data Submitted to the Food and Drug Administration

Abstract

Background

Meta-analyses of antidepressant medications have reported only modest benefits over placebo treatment, and when unpublished trial data are included, the benefit falls below accepted criteria for clinical significance. Yet, the efficacy of the antidepressants may also depend on the severity of initial depression scores. The purpose of this analysis is to establish the relation of baseline severity and antidepressant efficacy using a relevant dataset of published and unpublished clinical trials.

[...]

Conclusions

Drug–placebo differences in antidepressant efficacy increase as a function of baseline severity, but are relatively small even for severely depressed patients. The relationship between initial severity and antidepressant efficacy is attributable to decreased responsiveness to placebo among very severely depressed patients, rather than to increased responsiveness to medication.

So not only does it not work it makes it worse. Pretty much what I suspected.

So when I went from wanting to kill myself and stay in bed to thinking rationally and not having overwhelming guilt and shame and even being able to laugh again, that was all in my head?

Bullshit.

EDIT: While the drugs may not have relieved depression, they did offer something that the placebos did not: Nasty side-effects.

You forgot the best side effect of all: massive profits*

* limited access to massive profits may apply

I was going to ask, were their side effects no worse than a placebo either? Probably not.

While the efficacy of the AD's listed may be questionable, their negative side-effects, unfortunately, are well established.

Suicide is a side effect of these pills

well they kill your dick and give you the shits, so there's that.

Actually I got my sex drive back.

Those are only symptoms typical of a transition phase from human to zombie. It's completely normal and nothing to be concerned with.

They sure make good money though

Fuck all the shills that question the effectiveness of holistic approaches that encourage better living, healthier eating, and are far less risky than drugs like these.

Fuck all the dipshits that quote this snarky asshole:

“You know what they call alternative medicine that's been proved to work? - Medicine.”

I have tried them all.. Only way they are considered effective is they make you feel more comfortable with eating a bullet. Pure poison.

I've tried all and none of them have worked
