The Game of a Generation (self.witcher)

I posted this on The Witcher Facebook page today.

Devoted a year of my life to this game, hardly used Fast Travel, cantered long distances to each contract point...all the praise for the visuals and lore, the story and the beautiful things really are masterpiece tier quality. But, as an audiophile I'd found the sound design and music really something special. I don't think the witcher 3 is just a game of the year type of experience, it was the game of a generation. Like Mario Bros solidified the classic NES era, Sonic for the Sega Generation, Ocarina of Time for the N64 Era, Tomb Raider for the PS1 era, and so on until you get to 2015 to now: The Witcher 3. This is our generational game.

I certainly agree about the main game. Damn Skellige. That music, that scenery....awe inspiring.

I must admit those the expansions resonated a lot less with me than I'd hoped. They focus too much on Geralt's occupation as a monster hunter rather than the world and characters that inhabit it.

I have only played Hearts of Stone but my impression from that is the opposite. It was completely character driven and I loved it for that.

I somewhat agree on the expansions. While I found them both to be good...I did not find them on the same level as Wild Hunt. This is likely because I did not have the time to fall in love with the characters as I did with the original game. The expansions were 10 and 20 hours respectively, where the original game was hundreds.

By the end of Wild Hunt, I literally loved Ciri like she was my own daughter, and when it came time to say goodbye, it was a heart wrenching moment for me...a moment that simply never arrived in either expansion.

The same went for Triss/Yen.

The end of Wild Hunt made me happy (I got good endings) yet very sad at the same time...it left the world feeling empty when Ciri/Yen/Triss were gone. It was simply in a different league.

Yep. It just sucks that it's over, and I am saying that as someone who is waiting for 1070 to arrive before starting full second playthrough with Blood and Wine yet unplayed :)

Fortunately for us CD projekt Red making more games LOL.

My hope is that it lives up to The Witcher Legacy, and that when all is said and done CD projekt Red is considered one of the greatest developers of all time.

I have zero doubt that Cyberpunk 2077 will be another masterpiece. They are now in such a good financial situation that they have no reason to release anything inferior. But as much as I love Cyberpunk setting (and in fact hoped that's what CDP would choose to do besides Witcher), I still hope we will get to play as Geralt again one day.

I'm really hoping for a Ciri cameo in Cyberpunk 2077. She did tell Geralt about going to that futuristic world after all, so it could be possible.

Would it be too much of a stretch for her to be involved somehow too? Like it doesn't even have to be the main quest; perhaps maybe a side quest. Or would that be too much of a fan service and kinda detract from them trying to create a whole new separate game?

Yeah I've been wondering about that, still not too sure if it'd be a good thing or bad. I do think it'd be really cool to see her make an appearance though. And CDPR said this is the end of Geralt's story but they didn't say anything about Ciri!

Does witcher 3 use chapters like it's predecessors? I've completed the 1st and currently playing through the 2nd and haven't seen any gameplay of witcher 3.

No it does not. The story is structured in a way that it kind of has chapters, but there are not officially labeled chapters since you can go pretty much anywhere on the map at any time.

The pretentiousness, my god. People have different tastes of games, I for one could never get into COD, but I keep hearing it used as a scapegoat for different tastes, so ridiculous.

Well it's near impossible to deny that call of duty is a low quality game that pulls in a large crowd, and a high quality game like the Witcher pulls in a smaller crowd. That's not a scapegoat, thats just how it is.

Idk about the Witcher pulling in a small crowd, especially Witcher 3. This game is fucking incredible and won like a billion awards. It's probably more popular than its predecessors.

The type of people that would pick COD over this probably wouldn't fully enjoy this game anyway, don't be too sad. You have all of us!
