I was just reading this old post last night. It will be interesting seeing the responses now, six months later.

I second this opinion on distinguishing comment tiers.

I accidentally discovered the mobile site last week after getting a new phone, and I liked it so much that I panicked the next day when I was redirected to the normal site. The mobile site is easy to navigate and looks absolutely gorgeous. I usually opt out of mobile sites and stick to the desktop versions while on my phone, but this is the first time I've actually preferred the mobile version. In fact, I never use phone apps for sites that work perfectly fine through a browser, but I think this mobile site is nicer than most sites' mobile apps. I'm not always up to date on the latest tech or mobile stuff, but for me you've really set the bar for mobile versions of web sites.

With that said, one thing I'd like to see changed is for the list of "Subscribed" communities to be ordered alphabetically instead of what appears to be date-joined. It can be difficult to navigate the list when it's essentially arbitrarily ordered.

Also, the "Settings" option under the top-right menu just takes me to a log-in screen, even if I'm already logged in or after logging in again.

(Sent from my phone.)

edit: Another nice feature would be something to make it easier to distinguish which "tier" a comment is in when collapsing comments. A faint line running alongside the comments would probably work well.

I've heard that people don't like this stuff because it works too well. How hard is it to remove pedals? I'm still constantly rearranging things so I'm not ready for a semi-permanent solution. I'll be building a pedalboard soon so I need to figure out what the best adhesive for me is.

If that's the one at the Sarasota golf course that I read about yesterday (Buffalo Creek, I think?), it's been there for years and apparently they even get extra business from people who want to see it. They described it as the course mascot.

Homebrewing 内の cvilletrack によるリンク Disposed yeast killed a tree?

[–]bigguitartone 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

I agree that the effect is probably negligible. I'm just a proponent of making small changes in circumstances like this (I may be friends with one too many utility managers), and the general mindset that you can flush anything down the drain without consequences is problematic.

I've actually had trouble getting HVAC projects permitted because the utility didn't want condensate to drain to their sanitary sewer, which is an extremely minor load but they don't want to use the resources to process it since it isn't necessary.

Homebrewing 内の cvilletrack によるリンク Disposed yeast killed a tree?

[–]bigguitartone 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

The idea that your individual contribution won't do any harm isn't a strong argument. Obviously only a handful of homebrewers doing this will have a negligible result. This is similar to saying that one person that doesn't recycle their plastic isn't doing much harm to the environment.

The issue is when this is a popular mindset of a large portion of the homebrewing community (which may be the case, seeing as this is the highest rated comment in this thread). The real issue is even broader than this: the idea that people can just flush general waste down their toilet is a problem for utilities and often the environment.

I got this pic from last night's show, and the Line 6 FM4 on his board could be used to get those sounds (check out the Octisynth and Synthomatic settings in that video at 6:23 and 7:47, as well as the others). I don't think that's the only thing he's using, though.

It's not really a tone I've ever cared for so I don't have much knowledge on it. I'd also check out some ring modulator pedals. There's also a good archived discussion here that I would look through.

I don't recommend flushing your hops down the toilet. The additional organic matter increases the biological oxygen demand (BOD) of the resulting effluent, which causes additional strain on the waste water treatment process. The trub is also unnecessary solids that the treatment plant must pay to remove (with your tax dollars).

edit: I suppose these particular issues don't apply if you have a septic system.

[–]bigguitartone 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Fernco flexible couplings work well for larger pipes; you may be able to find a similar product for the diameters you are working with. It sounds like a similar solution is being recommended with the silicon adapters and hose clamps.

Thanks for the response, I've been fascinated by water/wastewater treatment ever since I took a course in it last year. Why do you push for UV systems? I assume it impacts a greater range of the microbiology in the water?

Is there any good reading on this? I'd be curious to see what others have come up with and used excel for. I've been wanting to learn more excel for a while now, and this would actually be a good outlet for me, but I always felt that my lack of statistics expertise was holding me back more than my excel experience (although I'm sure they often go hand-in-hand).

Really? I thought most just used chlorine, and that UV is expensive to power and maintain. I'm not in the industry though.

I got a new HDD (WD Blue) and I want to clone just a single partition of a different HDD to it, and leave the remaining partition on the existing drive (the old drive has two partitions currently). (I assume I can then extend the partitions so that each drive has only one partition.)

What is the best way to go about this? (I'm mostly looking for a software recommendation.)

Well, weeks 5-9 and 16 have only been subject to flexible scheduling for the last two seasons (source), and since then the only time any games have been flexed during these weeks was last year (Giants/Vikings replaced Steelers/Ravens during week 16); so yes, it's actually never happened that early. Week 10 appears to be the earliest that a game has ever been flexed on SNF (2006 & 2007)*.

I'm just looking for direction: What are the best phones available at the moment, and are they any older phones that are a great value at their current price-point? I have a monthly T-mobile plan so I just need an unlocked phone that I can slip my sim card into.

My phone (a refurbished Galaxy S3, about two years old) has been giving me various issues for the past 18 months, but unfortunately I think it's finally reached my tolerance threshold so I guess I'm in the market for a new phone. (It doesn't always charge when I plug it in, and it died overnight when it should have been charging so I didn't have my morning alarm.)
