"Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die." - Mel Brooks.
Yes, yes it is. Funny doesn't have to be scripted, unless you are doing it seriously. Sometimes the funnies are where just one little detail is out of whack, and suddenly raucousness ensues, through no fault of the subject or even the observer. We can start with a gentle one: it's just an accent, but listen to it a few times and it'll get ya. I like humour to be subtle, myself. But sometimes it's so subtle you don't even see it until afterwards. I had a convo once, went like this:
"How is So-and-so?"
"Oh, she's okay. Had a bit of a rough time. Her little dog was out on the balcony of their apartment, on the 3rd floor. And it was really windy... and well, the wind picked the dog up and woosh, up into the sky."
... We looked at eachother, and we were silent, for about ... 5 seconds. Then maybe another 3.
"I mean, it was tragic."
And at that, the levy broke, and our tears did roll down our faces, in shameful hysterical laughter. You must forgive us, dear reader. You try telling that story and not laughing. I have tried since. It just ... never fails. It's a cruel, and stupid situation. Don't think bad of us. It's the mechanics of humor. We were caught off-guard.
And so we present /r/accidentalcomedy, the place where you didn't want it to be funny, but let's face it, it just is. Not cruel, just hilarious. Speaking of which, try this one: Woman hit by lightening speaks.. There are other types of humor though. Like this one: Simple. But effective. Or this one, from the same bottomless pit that is social networking. Let's face it, it's mostly the surprise element. Like this one. That's art, that is. It's so good it breaks the rules in the sidebar, but still gets to stay. Then there is the more ... well ... is it the jacket? Is it the stoic face? The relentless innuendo? I'm not sure, but it grows on you. But not in that way.
We caught up with a mod there, vacuum cleaning very close to an open parrots cage.
So what's the community like?
/u/karazykid Our community is a very light hearted fun community that keeps me laughing quite often.
What would you say to people who label some of this humor as being cruel, or insensitive?
/u/karazykid I really haven't heard any users label this kind of humor as being cruel or insensitive at this point in time. Though it is 2016, I'm sure someone will complain... I find this sub as mostly innocent humor, and a great place to sit down and have a laugh.
Show us a favorite or two ...
karazykid My personal favorite link from this sub is a post made by /u/AKCheesehead titled A singing fish with dying batteries. The first video to make me literally roll on the floor while laughing. When I first read the title, I though it was overkill and made the mistake of watching at work. I literally busted out laughing so hard I was crying. /u/forwhombagels posted a link to /r/lowbatterysounds and that became one of my favorite places to visit for the longest time. Also Milk life hack posted by /u/pashasbicepsaresexy made me chuckle pretty good. First time I ever saw it, even though it's everywhere.
Why is it so fucking hilarious if I bang my leg on the corner of the table?
karazykid Do you find it hilarious when you bang your leg on the corner of the table? If so you got some insane pain tolerance. Me on the other hand, I have a little bit of a tourettes moment, followed by a little bit of a cry. So everyone but me finds it hilarious.
See, that was fucking hilarious. What would you like to say to prospective new subscribers?
karazykid This sub is a great place to come, sit and have a laugh with a pretty awesome community. I have had very few issues with this sub's community and that is awesome seeing how we have 40K + subscribers. Proud to be a part of it.
Thanks mod. /r/accidentalcomedy is just brilliant. Forget your sitcoms. Turn to real life for the laughs. It's out there.
