What would you guys feel about going after James Rodriguez, on the assumption that Real Madrid actually do get Pogba. Of course this is a hypothetical situation, but I kinda like the idea of having him, Martial, and Rashford immediately behind Zlatan/Rooney or whoever outside of just a talent perspective. That much speed in the middle, considering that our strikers are slow, should really help.

I would take him, but not for the price that Real want

What do you think the price for James will be?

[–]BadApplePineappleDe Gea 1

Close to €80m.

I really think thats an acceptable price for him, Madrid paid through the nose for Bale and didn't get much return on investment. €80M would be a steal for somebody as talented as Rodriguez.

I think that its a little high. Hopefully we could get it super loaded with incentives, like 50+30 for achieving a certain amount of goals like the Ballon D'Or, at which point the 80 is worth it.

but why? If you don't like Mata why would you replace him with an slightly upgraded version of the same player? If you read a Madrid fan describe James this season, it's exactly how we describe Mata.

I really like Mata, but the James descriptions I think are simply wrong. In 51 games this season, Mata has 11 Goals and 9 Assists across all levels of play, and James has 12 Goals and 12 Assists in just 31 Games, according to ESPN.

I think he is quite overrated actually. Don't think his best position is a position we need.

I think that James could really work if he was given the freedom to be more creative than he is with Real Madrid. His play for Colombia shows what he can do if he isn't on a leash the whole time. I feel like he would work really well, and isn't a big name for the sake of a big name.

Looks like Pjanic is going to Juve according to Di Marzio

Who else would be a good midfielder for 30 million euros?

Optimistically Kante, more realistically Matic?

[–]woongjinPark, Evra, and that traitorous bastard

How much you think Kante would go for? Think he'll have a release clause like Vardy?

It's hard to tell, but if he wants to leave which is the way it sounds his price might drop a little bit. I think he could go for that amount of money, the only reason I said Kante was optimistic is that a Champions League team is more likely to pick him (also he is in the Champions League already).

I wonder if that's a pre-emptive Pogba replacement or if it's more of a Vidal replacement.

[–]woongjinPark, Evra, and that traitorous bastard

Im going to guess more of a Vidal replacement they have their midfield of Marchisio, Pogba, and Khedira being starters or near starters and it looks like Juve wants to buy Kovacic from Real.

I didn't want to make a post of this because it's seems like it's one of THOSE summer rumors... Kike Marin (El Confidencial) Who was the one who said Mourinho was coming in on a pre-contract agreement a while back is now saying that Bale wants to come back to the Premier League.... (Yes the rumors are back) And we would be willing to pay 120 million euros for him...

http://www.elconfidencial.com/deportes/futbol/2016-06-08/el-united-prepara-120-millones-para-fichar-a-bale-deseoso-de-volver-a-la-premier_1213033/

[–]BadApplePineappleDe Gea 5

Kike Marin is not reliable. r/gunners hate him because he always talk rubbish and he uses "could", "would" and "might" a lot. He basically just guessing. El Confidencial is big in Spain but their sports department is average.

Back to Gareth Bale, he won't leave Real Madrid.

If Pogba comes now, and we get Zlatan up front, how on earth does that line up work?

4-3-3 with the midfield 3 being DM, Pogba, Rooney? That doesn't seem secure enough to me.

4-4-2 with Rooney and Zlatan up top and Pogba next to a DM?

I love the idea of Pogba, but i'm not sure how to reconcile the idea of him with Zlatan & Rooney moving to Midfield.

Edit: Just thought of this - Pogba as the RW of the top 3 (essentially the same role as Mata)

I think that at a certain point, that level of talent fixes issues regarding "fit".

Not necessarily, look at Madrid, Casemiro starts over James nowadays because their midfield full of superstars does not work.

I'd disagree though in that case because Casemiro's starts are due to needing more defense. Pogba's a much better defender than James, and plays box-to-box far better.

So would you say that a midfield 3 of Rooney, Pogba, DM (Schniederlin, Blind, Carrick, or other) would be a suitable cover for the defense?

I'm still not 100% convinced about that defense as a unit, however, I think that Pogba is well above average defensively. He's great because he can be slotted with the defense, or the offense, and still make a major difference in the final score.

The 4-3-3 would work if you put Schneiderlin as DMF and Rooney & Pogba rove around. As we've seen Rooney doesn't abandon his post defensively when he saved us in the FA Cup with some crucial last line of defence tackles. Pogba is very strong in defence so that wouldn't be a problem.

I think that maybe a 3-5-2 could work well. Considering how speedy our back line is, and the lack of speed between Zlatan and Rooney, having 5 guys staggered in the Midfield would work pretty well, and give enough space for our faster players to either build up the attack, or recover.

I'm already exhausted by this silly season and it's not even officially started. First PL game seems so far away. Somehow it even feels to me like the Euro is, like, in the way or something. If only all the waiting could be already over. It'd be Day One and we'd see the boys coming out of the tunnel, holding one of those little fuckers by the hand, wearing the new kit, looking proud.

Can't fucking wait.

Lots of people seem to oppose to the Andre Gomes move, who else would you realistically want in midfield other than pogba and naingollan?

I personally really like him but I also do like some of the CDM options like Krychowiak or maybe Matic

I dont understand why everyone is opposing the move all of the sudden. One guy came and said he an inconsistent and now all of the sudden that is everyones opinion. Watch him for yourselves. He is a very talented player and I would like to have him.

So many different combinations of players that could come to United. If player A goes to Club X, then that opens up player B to come to United. And if club Y go for player C, that means player D, player A, and possibly player E would make United into an insane XI.

So many different combinations, so many big names up for transfer, it's going to make for the silliest of silly seasons and very entertaining football to come.
