So James Cooper was back on Sky sports just now talking Manchester United, seems SSN haven't changed his postion after the Jose stories but after talking about Bailly he made a couple of points about transfers

  • Said United are trying to have a policy of signing up and coming young players that have room for improvement and Bailly is testament that this will continue under Jose
  • Mentions Baillys height as being a major factor and that with him and Smalling in defense you have 2 tall Cbs.
  • Mentions that its looking like Phil Jones doesnt have a future at the club
  • Can see Blind going back into midfield under Jose and not being a CB
  • Expects this to be a very busy summer in terms of ins and outs
  • Zlatan should be the next signing, both parties are relaxed that the deal will be completed at some time
  • Says Jose is looking for more defensive signings (doesnt say CB)
  • CM is another position.
  • Cooper understands that DDG is staying at the club
  • Expects United to announce in the next week that Carrick has signed a 1 year extension. Jose wanted him to stay and Carrick wanted to play for him

Actually makes sense, with both Smalling and Bailly not being ball playing CBs you'll need someone who can spread it out on the counter. Carrick and Schweinsteiger were really the only midfielders that did it consistently last season. Not counting Rooney yet because we have no idea where he will play under Mou

Blind was awful at CDM before in many matches. Other teams ran circle around him and he is so slow it looked like he moved in slow motion.

His biggest problem is dealing with teams pressing him.

He can't seem to pass under pressure. Give him space and time and he'll pick out his man, but so can most players. You don't get that time and certainly not that space in midfield. His passing was better at centre back than it ever was in midfield, although he remained a liability when teams played with a high press.

Very exciting times! Really hoping for a world class winger too. Its great that we're signing up and coming players but I'd really like one proper world class attacker for our right wing.

Not a big fan of Sane. Ive watched Schalke quite often and he never really impressed me in any of the games. I don't know if I just happened to watch all his average games or what but it certainly seems like it, don't really get the fuss about him.

Thats the problem, don't really know any available at the moment. Fucking Bayern monopolising the wingers. Maybe Mkhitaryan? or Mahrez?

Not specifically wingers though, just any established world class player would be amazing. We've gone after a lot of "almost there" players in the recent years, would be exciting to have a proper worldie (apart from Zlatan if the rumours are true).

That's fair, he may not be world class really. That being said though, in terms of realistic targets I think are worth pursuing, I still think he should be close to the top of the list

I don't think we only want such players. It was mentioned perhaps because there aren't any top class players available/wanting to join us in our transition so we do the next best thing.

    Relieved that Dave looks like he'll be staying. Ideally we'll sign a ball playing centre back, a creative central midfielder and a goal scoring right winger in addition to Zlatan.

    I think we'll sell Jones. His injury record is atrocious. Rojo's defending is questionable too. We could definitely do with another centre back though there are other needs.

    He was pretty dire towards the end of the season but I think he had some good games before he was hit with injuries. Hopefully he can be a good depth player.

    It still doesn't make sense to splash another £25-30m on a centre half though right now I feel. As in, it's the least worrying area as of now at least and there's always a budget no matter how rich you are. So that's why.

    Well a lot of media reports said Mourinho would get 200 million to spend. We've spent 30 million on Bailly with Ibra coming in on a free. 170 million should cover 3 positions easily unless there's a possibility we're getting Bale or Neymar which is highly unlikely.

    Ibrahimovic wouldn't be free.

    Even ignoring his sure to be huge wages, his signing-on fee will be astronomical.

    You can be sure that Woodward and the Glazers wouldn't think Ibrahimovic is free. Good value and cheaper than he usually would cost, sure. But not even close to free.

    Cooper is the third journalist now to say that Jose is looking for another defensive player (Ducker and Keegan has said the same).

    I think the fact Cooper says defensive and not a position makes me wonder if hes looking for someone who can play both CB and either LB or RB (not that I can actually think of a player)

    I would try out Varana and Stones who are the likely targets but I do we go for a more experienced CB but that backline is short of age and experience tbh.

    Shame Hummels went to Bayern.
