PetSmart just completely screwed up my dog... (self.legaladvice)

So I just got back from PetSmart in Southlake, Texas and they completely messed up a cut on my Golden Retreiver. I'm incredibly annoyed and speaking to the store manager tomorrow, would appreciate any other advice. When we phoned to speak to him this evening, the assistant sore manager stated 'oh, you must be the person whose dog got accidentally shaved today' so in effect, they've already acknowledged the fault.

I'm concerned (since, against our instructions, they shaved her) about the summer now and getting sunburn while outside. She isn't an outdoor kept dog, but we spend a lot of time taking her on walks and with her playing out in the back garden, this will severely affect the time we spend with her over the next few months.

Inwould appreciate any advice on how to handle the ongoing issue with PetSmart, I am pretty sure they'll offer a refund tomorrow, but is there any other recourse? Should I just push for gift certificates or something from them to make up for the inconvenience? She is a from a show background (parents are champions) but we have never shown her, doll, her hair may never grow back in fully the same since Goldens are Double coated.

Refund is most likely. If sun damage is a potential issue, push for a free dog shirt. But don't expect much more than that. The fur will grow back and the only real damage is what you paid.

Also they did a terrible job on that shave. Even if I had asked for the cut, I'd still ask for a refund.

For clarification, we did ask for a cut. They shaved it and then acknowledged on the phone that they shaved it by accident and should have been a cut

Oh yeah, a trim and an intense brushing are needed for lots of dog breeds right about now. That undercoat is super thick. Hopefully they do what they can and make you happy. Just don't set your expectations too high.

Get a full refund. There are no other damages here.

Now, if the manager at petsmart was a good manager he would offer you something to keep you as a customer. Like two free cuts in the future or a gift card.

We get our shi/peke mutt done at Petsmart - the only advice I can give about dealing with them is to figure out which of their groomers are good with your dog and which aren't. We always request the specific groomer we want. She does a great job, and we tip well, so she's always very thorough about the work she does for us.

I'm so sorry about that shave - it is pretty rough. If my dog came home with that, I would request a refund of that grooming, and if possible a gc or coupon for the first full groom once he grew back in, just because of how much more work will need to be done on that first groom.

I would go to r/dogs to ask about the sunburn.

I suspect she will be fine outside. The fur is pretty dense, even though it is short.

Ask for a refund and Get a doggy shirt for her and put spray on sun block on her for about 2 weeks when you go out. After that her fur will be long enough to protect her. Best friend is a dog the Dog groomer this is her advice when she has to shave a dog. Yes, It will take her coat a while to get back to normal but as you said she's not a show dog so you have no monetary damages beyond the refund.

Not really legal advice, but as the owner of several St. Bernards throughout my entire life and who were always shaved in the summers, you aren't going to have any trouble with sunburn. As a kid, we had several on our farm, they spent almost all day outside on the farm with no issues. And, as an adult in Las Vegas, we had 2 that spent 3-4 hours outside roaming our fenced yard, with no problems.

We have fun with it, too. We've shaved them to look like lions, with a ball of hair on the end of their tail... ;)
