How about they make a new Elder Scrolls? I already remastered Skyrim.

they are, we won't see that for another couple years since they just released fallout

I don't believe the team who created FO4 was the same one who made Skyrim, but i could be wrong.

Never doubt Bethesda's ability to take an eon to make a game

And then the result is Fallout 4 which still feels undercooked. What have they been doing all these years? I have the feeling that the old guard has become very saturated and lazy. It's time Bethesda got some new talent, especially in the engine development and writer departments.

I honestly think that's why it feels like it's missing something. The game had been "in development" since 2009, when they were the only company making games like theirs. Fallout for is the epitome of a game made in a vacuum while all the other developers used their games as a springboard to make things on whole new levels like The Witcher 3.

I Love Fallout 4, it was my GOTY for 2015, but it's so easy to see all that.

Fallout 4 over The Witcher 3? I spent over 400 hours on FO3. I only ever played The Witcher 2 one time. Despite my fanboy-ism for Fallout, I thought TW3 was leaps and bounds better than FO4. Better graphics, story, customization, dialogue options, mini-games, soundtrack.. probably even more if I think hard about it.

I guess FO4 wins in the combat category. But that's not saying its combat is actually good- it's only good in comparison to its predecessors.

Yes over the Witcher. It scratched that itch for me better than The Witcher 3 did. The exploration and world building I get from Fallout is why I play the games still. I Love the atmosphere, the setting, and gameplay

True story, and I understand this feeling for sure! But I actually appreciate the wait time. I absolutely hate annual released games. I can fully enjoy a game like Skyrim for a few years. I can enjoy other games in the interim. Also, by the time they actually announce something I'm pretty anxious and excited.

theres only one team inside bethesda, thats why it takes so long for them to make games, because most of the team is only working on one project at a time. its also why TES 6 probably won't come out before 2018

I mean, considering they keep using the same engine, it shouldn't take them that long.

[–]thatguythatdidstuff [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

theres only a hundred of them though, which is a lot smaller than most studios of this calibre. and they usually at least update the engine with each game so that usually adds on a year or so.

Yeah people don't understand this. CDProjekt Red is always referred to as a "small developer" but they have more staff than BGS

Open world games traditionally take ages to make. Even if the TES games have arguably become less 'open-world' since Morrowind, they are still massive pretty massive in scope.

[–]Pvt_Lee_Fapping [スコア非表示]  (2子コメント)

I thought Bethesda said they want to make a new engine for future TES games?

[–]NazzerDawk [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

They "did" this for Skyrim. The Creation Engine is, by definition, a new engine. However, that new engine is still just a modified Gamebryo engine.

[–]Imronburgundy83 [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

I don't know the complete logistics of it, although I vaguely remember the engine of FO4 being the same or similar to Skyrim, as well as being less than thrilled with the graphics of FO4.

Todd Howard was the director for both, and much of the team (if not all) was the same.

[–]Jigsus [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

It's not about having the same team. They just know the people who bought fallout are the same people who'll buy elder scrolls. They don't want two of their own products competing for attention so they stagger the releases.

[–]suddenimpulse [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

There was an interview with Bethesda on IGN just after Fallout 4 release that said to not expect a new Elder Scrolls for "a long time". I think they said at least 4 years from Fallout 4 release. I can try to find the article. I'd like to think that's because they are making a very deep game or using a better engine but I'm probably wrong on both fronts.

[–]rederic [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

They must dedicate time to developing a new engine. Skyrim pushed the existing engine to its limits, and Fallout 4 highlighted its failings.

A proper physics simulation that isn't tied to frame rate is a must, and the cell system needs to be eliminated or highly optimized to reduce load time bloating. It also gives them the opportunity to build the engine around the way they want to use it, and write in proper methods to do things they've hacked together over the years.

If/ When they do I hope they take it in the opposite direction they have taken fallout. Would love to see an Elder Scrolls with more of a Morrowind feel to it.

Exactly why I'm not excited. I already put 500 hours into fucking with mods, GUI, and graphics updates along with playing quest and companion mods. I've played basically everything there is to play about skyrim, and they're remastering a game that came out 5 years ago? Why not upgrade oblivion to the skyrim engine?
