Barr ghostwriter finds promoting liberty doesn't pay

http://jimbovard.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/ccddb_lessonssm.jpgBob Barr, the GOP congressman-turned-Libertarian presidential candidate (and CL columnist-turned-AJC columnist) is being sued by the ghostwriter of his 2008 campaign book, Lessons in Liberty, for $47,000 in unpaid fees.

Libertarian author James Bovard has gotten some high-profile press over the past few days for having the distinction of, as he puts it, making Barr's the "only U.S. presidential campaign to ever be sued by its ghostwriter."

According to a Washington Post blog, Russ Verney, Barr's 2008 campaign manager, confirms Bovard is right:

"We owe him some money and we intend to pay it," said Verney. "If he's sending out press releases about it, he could add a donation button. We could use it. If there are libertarians who want to make sure Jim gets paid, they can donate to us."

As Verney's statement suggests, Bovard wasn't the only one left holding an IOU from the ill-fated Barr campaign. For a full list of Bob's unpaid creditors, peep here.
