What is the difference between the cups (FA, Capital, Community)? Seriously, I don't know which one is important, which one is not.

The FA Cup is the first competition in football and every team in England plays it.

The Capital One Cup is a competition for every professional team associated with the football league, the top 4 divisions.

The Community Shield is a (semi?) friendly match between the Premier League and the FA Cup champions. This year will be between us and Leicester.

FA Cup - Oldest cup competition in the world. Eligible for any team in the top 10 leagues. Small, local teams gain massive support when they get further than usual in the competition. First games to qualify for the smallest teams is in August.
Capital Cup - Eligible for any team in the top 4 leagues. Smaller, less important brother of the FA cup.
Community Shield - Single game between winner of league + FA cup the year before. More or less a pre-season friendly nowdays.

Does Darmian still have those legendary sideburns?

[–]SokkerboiMemphis 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

I think he's in a battle with Memphis for worst looking player with sideburns. I wish they both would just shave and be done with it!

I have never understood the finer points of tactics... how is martial so effective? It seems like he always scores the exact same way. Nothing fancy and he always just seems to cut in from the left. Most of his goals look quite similar. Why is this not easy to defend against?

Edit: So I just watched the highlight reel someone just posted. I think I underexagerated a good bit. He has a lot of tallent. But a lot of his goals aren't just mind bending. Is it just raw speed and pressure?

Why dont bigger teams (like us) not maintain 2 different starting eleven for midweek and weekend matches. * Players would adequate rest time. * More time for preparing for a match. * Less chance for injuries. * More opportunities for youngsters. * But players also get used to playing with each other

GK -De Gea RB - Darmian/Valencia
RCB - Smalling/Tuzanabe
LCB - Blind/Rojo LB - Shaw/CBJ CDM - Schneiderlin/FSM CM - Rooney/Schweinsteiger CAM - Herrera/Pereira RM - Mata/Januzaj
LM - Martial/Depay ST - Rashford/CF

Subs Lingard Jones Carrick Felliani Wilson

Because you usually want your best/in form players playing every match. Rotation like that would result in very inconsistent and disjointed performances

I was always curious as to how fans thousands of kilometers away came to support the club. Even in countries in Asia where football isn't predominantly the first sport you'd think of when you think of the country. I do honestly enjoy the fact that our mutual love for the club is something we have in common despite being so far apart. I'm interested in knowing how the footballing culture is across the globe, it'd be brilliant if someome can fill me in on it.

I was born in India where the nation's favourite word is cricket. 15 years ago, club cricket meant nothing, and the only form of cricket people watched was international cricket. Football to me was different. Club games are important. Rivalries are passionate. Clubs are chosen, your country (of birth) is not.

Fundamentally, supporting United let me enjoy football differently to other sports I watched.

I am Bulgarian (Eastern Europe) and when I was old enough to understand what is going on on a pitch we signed Berbatov from Spurs. As he was the most established Bulgarian player then (and now to a certain point) I followed him vaguely to see how he is doing for himself. When he left for Fulham I decided to stick with United because I grew attached over time. My first "real" season was 2013/14 under David Moyes and the FA cup last season was the first trophy i celebrated.

Wasn't the previous Copa America held just last year? Why is it being played 2 years in a row?

[–]mu_37 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

it's being held for the 100th anniversary, which i find really weird and kinda cheapened the occasion a bit.

When will the next one be then? Seems wierd

What happens to the Community Shield if the league champions also win the FA Cup? Is it just not played? I'm not quite old enough to remember when we won the treble so to the best of my memory I've never witnessed it happen...

[–]maersklineBlind Faith[S] 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

The top two teams in the league play the Community Shield.

Why doesn't De Gea ever shave, as it seems?

[–]SokkerboiMemphis 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

If Edurne told me she liked my facial hair I would never shave either.

I understand the offside rule very well. What I don't understand is why it is implemented.

[–]maersklineBlind Faith[S] 5ポイント6ポイント  (0子コメント)

I always thought it was in place to avoid "poor quality football"; i.e. having 7-8 men defending and the rest past the last defender waiting for a long ball.

If offside wasn't a thing, I guess this would be a legitimate tactic, and the entire game would come down to whose long ball was better, rather than the other aspects that go into the game.

No idea if any of this is true though.
