I've said it all over the thread, so hopefully you'll see it.

I'll preface by saying there is obviously nothing inherently bad with the idea of discussions on Update threads. However, for whatever unexplained reason . . . they devolve into a cesspit.

For whatever reason, they get so many reports. Not even good reports or valid reports. Just calling people names, trolling, etc. There are also plenty of rule breaking comments. Again, for whatever reason, update threads are abnormal. No idea what causes it. None of this is good for the OP posting the update, or for the sub as a whole, which is attempting to be a place to seek legal advice.

If you can figure out why update threads get so toxic . . . then you'll be the new King of LegalAdvice.

In an attempt to solve these issues, it makes sense to try and separate the off-topic and sub violating rules to a place where it is perfectly fine to be off-topic! We have a sub dedicated to the meta-esque discussion of posts that are made here.

TL;DR - for whatever reason, Update threads tend to be bad. No one knows why. Reports and rule violations everwhere. Something needs to be done, and it is a problem that needs to be fixed. This is the method being used to tackle the problem.
