The mods and starred users do a significant percentage of the heavy lifting of actually answering the questions posted here. Without people to do that, nobody would be asking the questions for the lurkers to find interesting, amusing, disgusting, whatever. We've also been here the longest, as a group, and have more experience in seeing what works and what doesn't.

So yes, when it comes to the nuts and bolts of how to run things, the mods and starred users opinions are more important than someone who never answers legal questions and who showed up five minutes ago.

This is, first and foremost a HELP sub. Its purpose is to answer questions and provide actual practical assistance to people. If other people find it interesting, entertaining, whatever, that's great. We're happy you get something from it. But that isn't our top priority, answering the questions posted here is, and the policies we adopt are designed to facilitate that.

The best thing to further that goal would be to ban any updates without additional questions, but people obviously don't want that, so we tried to find a middle road. If you really find it that wildly inconvenient to move over to BoLA to discuss an update post, then it probably wasn't that important in the first place.
