While many, including this very publication, have had their doubts about Pied Piper’s viability in the saturated tech market, it turns out there’s always room for something that will truly change the world. Since their fire-hot beta was released, Pied Piper has made waves all across the valley. The compression software—with a Weissman score in the fives—is now fully realized. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, estimates indicate that with widespread use it could shrink the internet by 10 percent.

This impressive feat is a result of the app’s official release and features that were hinted at in the beta show just how far Richard Hendricks’s team has come in building a mature product. At its core Pied Piper’s platform is built as a community-centered product. Users are connected through peering technology that maximizes streaming capabilities and allows for efficient deduplication capabilities. But the real surprise is that the community features praised in the beta have a transformational end-point: machine learning. Centralized data allows Pied Piper to find long-range patterns in the data it stores and use these patterns to enhance the underlying compression algorithm. In other words, Pied Piper’s compression will get better and better as more and more users submit data. This is groundbreaking.

It’s too soon to say how the product will be received by the general public, but after universal beta-love, there is certainly more than a little indication that the company is poised take over the world. Of course, those who have followed Pied Piper closely know we’ve been here before. What will happen across the market is yet to be determined. One thing’s for sure: The valley is watching.
