Silly season has returned for the 4th summer on /r/reddevils!

Most of you know the drill.

For those who don't...From today until the window closes, a transfer round-up & discussion thread will be made every day. In these threads, ANYTHING can be talked about. Any player, in or out, any transfer fee, anything!

Now, with these threads starting, this means that rumours submitted as separate posts will be removed unless they are from reliable sources!

The matic rumor has got to be one of the most random things I've seen this season. Doesn't make any sense why we'd sign him or why Chelsea would let him go.

It could be that he was one of Mou's favourite players at Chelsea and is just enquiring for a price. If Chelsea truly does buy Nainngolan then they would have Fabregas, Matic, Nainngolan, Oscar, Pedro, and Loftus-Cheek, who are all worthy of starting. One of those will be very unhappy with their playing time if they're not starting.

Matic, RLC, and Nainggolan all play holding midfield (Radja is capable of playing ahead of the pivot in a 433). Fabregas does too but he can start at #10. Pedro is a winger so no idea why you included him, the right wing is between him and Willian. Oscar isn't a starting player for Chelsea, he only started 20 league games last season and came on for 7 games. He can play on the left wing too.

Really depending on how Conte sets up it's between Fabregas, Matic, and Nainggolan with RLC probably being a bench player that'll get maybe 10-20 league games (starts and subs included). I think he prefers a 433 in which I'm certain Matic will be the pivot, with Nainggolan and Fabregas ahead of him. I don't think Oscar would have a problem playing in this formation as he's quite defensive anyways, so he can rotate between Fab/Nainggolan as well as the wing.

Pedro won't be going anywhere and if Conte does play a 433 I'd bet my left foot that Matic will be a nailed on starter with Fab ahead of him as well as Nainggolan or Oscar dependent on if they actually purchase the former. I can see Oscar leaving if Radja is brought in and he's not content with 20 league games per season. They're midfield will look very tidy going into next season if Radja is brought in.

If you include Pedro in that list you have to include Hazard and Willian as they are all wide MFs. Assuming Chelsea play some version of the 4231 that leaves the 5 players you listed to fill 3 spots. If anything Chelsea could buy someone on top of Radja Notgonnatryhislastnommagan. And you're forgetting Mikel.

Honestly if Mou wants a CDM. Please go after Krychowiak. As a fellow pole he would be a dream signing for me. Guy is physical, comfortable on the ball and quite good defensively.

Still young and won't cost a fortune like Matic would

It makes me question why Juve need him. They aren't exactly short in midfield talent. Unless Pogba really is going to Barca or Real this summer.

I think it was posted on /r/soccer recently that Pogba bought a home in Barcelona recently. I'm not sure how reliable that source is, but if it is then when there's smoke there's fire.

Marchisio is getting old, Pereyra and Khedira aren't as good as Pjanic I believe. They're stacked in midfield but he'd be an improvement

Edit: Also have to say I admire that. Meanwhile some people on here are asking whether or not we really need more midfielders because we've got Fellaini, Ander, Schneiderlin, Carrick, and Schweinsteiger as if that's an incredible midfield.
