You need to work out what interests you. Not much point in fielding suggestions from all corners if you try an occupation for 6 months and decide you don't like it. Can't say I know anyone who is 100% happy in their work - there will always be negatives.

From my point of view, you seem to have the right background to study engineering (maths, physics, chemistry, etc). You can get a job in manufacturing which involves a large amount of personal autonomy, occasionally interesting tasks and decent pay, as long as you're willing to go where the work is. A Mech or Elec Eng degree will allow you to do that.

Depending on what you do, you might need to give a job one or two years before you start getting into more interesting work. Have a Civil Engineer mate who won a very competitive graduate position at a name firm because he'd spent 18 months designing concrete slabs, and he cracked it and quit (and regretted it). That's how they educate you in the bread and butter basics.
