Love it. I started out in the financial planning industry with my 6 & 63. Very regulated business, crowded with competition. Ever since I was about 16 years old, I knew I wanted to do financial planning and got a finance degree. A small part of me still does. But it just didn't make me a lot of money. It's hard to explain but I'm younger and younger people just aren't investing besides maybe their 401K, and older people just aren't trusting a 22 year old with hundreds of thousands if not millions. On top of that even when the young or middle aged people are investing, they invest themselves and bypass people like me, for better and for worse. On top of that the regulation is just nuts in the business. Want to sign somebody up to put away $100/mo? Here's a 40 page application. And I think most importantly, I just was not good at it. I just had to get out!!!

I did a little bit of research into property & casualty insurance. Think of home and auto insurances. I learned that the average agent is 58 years old and agency owners are even older. And more research led to the fact that younger people just aren't getting into the P&C business. Being already licensed in life and health, many of the same concepts applied. I called and talked to an agency owner and I asked him a bunch of questions. I interrogated him for like 3 hours. Bought him a gift card for answering my questions and seeked out employment in the P&C industry. I've been in the business for about a year now and I LEARNED to love it and I'm making good money because it's a service that people need. Love the people I talk to on a daily basis. It's a lot more "relaxed" than financial planning and it fits me better even if it's not "what I wanted to do" when I was younger.

Not quite the blue collar work that Mike Rowe is alluding to, but kind of the same idea.

You followed opportunity, and that became your passion, just as Uncle Mike said it would.

More young people should see this.

Prager usually has pretty interesting videos. Glad they got Rowe to do one, he's an intelligent guy.

This should be something they show to every single kid going into college.

Wonderful!

Mike Rowe has convinced me that if I ever lose my current job in an economic downturn, then I'm going to become an exterminator. While I'm fine with my career as it is now, I just love annihilating bugs and pest-proofing my house.
