First of all 8ch needs to have an identity beyond GG. It cant be just the GG website. I think first of all people need to stop using legacy names like/v/ or /b/ , it needs to become its own thing. 8ch was on a great track a year ago before /intl/ and /pol/ fucked it up. 1) We CANNOT survive in the long-term (read: the next 5 years) without being on Google. This ONLY leads to the userbase dwindling, not increasing.

2) Jim absolutely needs to do something about the CP bots. Once again, this leads to the userbase dwindling, and again leads to problems. Instead of having the captcha be solved ONCE per every IP. Instead, how about: for every [RANDOM NUMBER BETWEEN 10 AND 100] post, the user must solve the captcha. Once the user solves a captcha, a DIFFERENT random number is picked. So maybe you post 13 times then have to solve a captcha, Then after you solve it, you can post 55 more times before you solve the captcha again. Then 30 times. Then 78 times. And the number you solve is different for every IP address. Etc.

3) Ban younglove/phile/all images related pedo content, regardless of whether or not it passes the DOST test. If it's just text, then that's different, but this shit drives AWAY people from the community. Again, without a larger population, we simply can't survive long term.

4) Innovate – We really need something that will help set us apart from other imageboards, aside from the fact that multiple boards can be created. I'm thinking about the idea that allowing gb/gbc/gba/nes/snes roms to be uploaded in place of the .swf files that were removed. Since these roms can be hacked/modified, interesting ideas/topics/themes could be created and ideas could be shown (read: free speech if its a rom hack, with something unique to our site).

5) Potentially rewrite 8chan/use lynxchan. This site just hasn't scaled well over the years, which has lead to users leaving. Something really needs to be done about this.

6) Information (community driven) – We need to better inform users how to create OC. This includes how to get video editing software (such as Sony Vegas or Premiere) and how to edit pictures (ie. photoshop/GIMP), how to create webms, etc.

I know some of these are controversial and some will be universally disliked, but lets be completely genuine here. Put your personal biases aside and think about the actual health of the website. What good will 8chan be if it's completely dead?

I'm always going to criticize the system of letting the users create new boards on a imageboard. There is no reason to decentralize the userbase outside of the random board except when people are already involved in a project like goygate or some niche interests like anime, something that actually requires a new -and specific- set of rules or mentality of the userbase.

Keeping old boards is also a awful idea and honestly I don't see a single good reason to keep them for more than a week of inactivity, if possible the number of user-created boards should be encouraged to be always less than 20, this is going to encourage new people to check already existent boards that no one cares about like some people are bitching about ITT.

Spamming/adverting your new board in a defined catalog of boards and pray for more people to automatically join it is dumb, a dedicated community of posters is build naturally.

To begin with, chans always wilt when under a mainstream eye, or with a massive influx of users. I don't think being on Google will help, honestly. If people are interested in this place, they'll find it. I know that sounds kind of "muh secrit club", but it's the truth.

What made 8chan great was that it was a place where we could weather the storm of GamerGate when we realized our original safe space wasn't quite as safe as we thought. Remember the first few days of being here? The collective feeling of relief/joy was incredible. It was a place for all, united under a cripple who was one of us, rather than just /admin/.

I honestly think what has happened is the new has worn off the toy for some. Owners/admins/volunteers have changed. Intrests have become obscured or have shifted. Enabling post ID is the second closest thing to making a person sign up to use your website.

It would get rid of a lot of the things people can do such as bumping their own thread, replying to their-self, trolling others. etc. Sure these things aren't all so great, but enabling a feature which restricts a little bit of freedom doesn't sound like a great idea to me. I've been here long enough to see what happens when post ID's and I can't say I like it. Even if I do like something, I'm not going to force it if others don't.

It also reinforces the hugbox memento (sorry /pol/ and /v/, but you're both a hugbox).

IDS ARE WORTHLESS

There's no point to have them on a board like /b/. If anyone really needs to identify themselves, they can easily make a temporary tripcode. On /pol/ it is necessary because it's all relatively serious discussion.
