Your thoughts on Kante amid PSG rumours? (self.reddevils)

I just heard that PSG apparently triggered Kante's surprisingly low release clause of €25M. As it's that low, and the only thing holding the transfer back is his unwillingness to leave the prem, I was wondering if you wished we could have gone for him or should still try and get him. I think he could do a pretty solid job in the Makelele/Matic role in Mourinho's 4231 as Ranieri compared him to Makelele earlier this year.

I hope PSG get him tbh. We haven't seen us linked with him before and it appears that Jose has other targets. So, if we don't go for him, I'd much rather he leave the PL instead of him joining Arsenal or Chelsea.

Much like Vardy, it seems those €25 million release clauses are for clubs in the CL only, so that rules us out I guess. Otherwise for sure I would have liked to go for him at such a low price. But makes me wonder who on Earth thought those clauses would be a good idea for Leicester.

We could offer €26m and then it's just up to Kante who he'd join so it doesn't rule us out. We don't have to activate the release clause. If Kante tells Leicester he will leave then they have no reason to reject an offer from us.

They were almost relegated the season before. He was signed for really cheap as well. Their manager wasn't expected to be stellar. All those add up honestly and at that point, it was seen as a great deal perhaps. Hindsight is something else.

People keep on saying this about it must be for a CL team but there's no proof of that. Vardy signed an extension once the season had already started on he was on fire so the CL part make sense for him but that doesn't mean Kante has the deal.

I'd love him but i think you'd still have to buy another CM too.

Players like Pjanic you can put next to Bastian, Carrick, Schneiderlin and the "fit" would be decent. Kante, whilst a great player, would still need a much more creative threat with him to make the midfield a better balance, a player we dont really have.

So given we want quite a few other positions too, dont see a pure DM happening

I was sorta thinking a midfield 3 with Kante, Pjanic, and Wazza would be pretty great. All solid workrates and passing ability. Kind of a jump considering we only have 1/3 of it I know.

Schweinsteiger, Carrick, Blind and Schneiderlin are all good enough for the CDM position. Can't tackle as well but are better passers. Good player but not what we need
