I know there's an IRC, but IRCs are very outdated at this point, atleast IMO

Seems to be a new post every day about some kind of chat server for here and every time the same reply is said.

Chat rooms dont last because its usually one or the other and they die out pretty quickly.

I browse /r/new basically every day and I can't think of any posts that try to get us into skype/discord like chats

There are periodic attempts to get people into IRC. I've seen some requests for a Slack, Skype, and WhatsApp groups too. It never works.

imo Discord beats all those services, just show up whenever you want to, no need to stay on 24/7. And if you don't want to join, simply don't join :)
