Sweaty sex campaign in Denmark encourages couples: 'Do it for Mom' to save welfare state

The long-term viability of Social Security is a regular topic during U.S. political campaigns. And the same goes in Denmark, where its equivalent retirement program apparently is in pretty bad shape.
The problem for the Danes: a low birth rate in the country, tilting the population toward old folks.
Last year, the City of Copenhagen and an independent advertising firm came up with a solution: a slick TV and online campaign urging Danes to make babies. "The Danish welfare system is under pressure," one ad says. "There are still not enough babies being born, despite a little progress. And this concerns us all."
But the campaign doesn't dwell on senior citizens' financial security. It focuses instead on how young Danish adults are breaking their parents' hearts by staying childless. "[T]hose who suffer the most are perhaps the mothers who will never experience having a grandchild," the ad laments.
It then shows us an older woman trying to figure out how to help her son procreate: she imagines sneaking into his bedroom while he's getting hot and heavy with his significant other to help with the removal of a brassiere.
The wannabe grandma rejects that notion, and the ad turns to better ways to encourage baby-making, such as sunny vacations and exercise that releases endorphins.
The tagline: "Do it for Mom."
It's an unusual and amusing campaign -- and apparently it's working. Britain's The Independent writes that nearly a year after the campaign launched, "reports have suggested that Denmark is set for a baby boom."
Watch an ad for the campaign below. But be aware: if you don't like suggestive content, this video isn't for you.

What a typical capitalist hit piece. Who do you think will take care of you in your old age, your parents?

And before some self righteous boot strapper says they will take care of themselves, I suggest you visit your local long term care facility for a snap shot of your future.

@Curfuffle huh... They already have. There are 376 million "hispanics" in america.

Of course you are so far in your ego central view, you only see america as usa.  I get it.

But if you are going to say that, what makes "hispanics" for you?

I get it. you want to subject them to the other, but really think about this. Your "hispanics" have some cultural connection to spain, correct? Of course, you have more connection to spanish culture then most south and central americans.

Is that not sexist? If you tell a woman that she needs to have a child to save the nation, that is sexist, right? It thought the progressive(regressive) left was anti sexism.

If it is simply a 'shift in demographics', we have a 'problem'.
If it is not simply a 'shift in demographics', we have a 'problem'.
      Simply, we have a problem.
7X more people 'created' than jobs.   Unsustainable.
In the world of weight loss; you can not 'feast' yourself 'thin'.   We can't 'consumer' ourselves to a 'healthy economy'.   We have to provide 'value added' - and it's NOT the next iPhone.

Socialism eventually runs its course.  Blame it on the low birth rate - not the fact that so many people are on the dole.

I am trying out a similar campaign on the neighbors.  They are young, no kids in a 4 bedroom house with a nice back yard.  She is a legal alien from a far Northern European country so I guess I am just ahead of the curve,  anyway we are closing this month on our house.  As to our sale, the requisite "sell me your house story letter" included the fact that they had a two year old and were wanting to increase and raise their family in our lovely home.

I pointed out to the kids across the street that they were falling behind and as good neighbors needed to get with the program so they could trade child care and have built in friends for their kids.  It sure is difficult getting old and trying to get the young ones to do what they damn well need to be doing--procreating not just recreating.

Can only bet they are counting the days until we are moved out.

A better solution would be to allow college educated immigrants into their country.  All the benefit of a young person ready to start their work career with none of the expense of getting them there.  I mean the only reason not to have such a program would be racism really, in which case I suppose you'd probably just advocate building a wall, try to reduce access to birth control, and encourage everyone to have lots of unprotected sex...

Just like the U.S. Social Security system, Denmark's public pension is a Ponzi / pyramid scheme. The scam relies on constantly adding more victims to the base of the pyramid, to keep paying out at the top. If you get a large enough pyramid, and or have a government run it it takes longer for it to become unsustainable, but ultimately it is unsustainable.
      steele2neal
      steele2neal 5ptsFeatured
@drliberty The Social Security system is not a Ponzi or pyramid scheme, and it is not unsustainable--unless we continue to allow contributions by those who are wealthy to be capped at a given income level. If wealthy people were required to pay their fair share into the system--proportionate to their income levels--AND investment income were treated as earned income in this country, as it so obviously should be--Social Security would be solvent in perpetuity.  The problem is that the wealthy in this county have bought off our legislators, convincing them that Social Security is "a scheme," and our media, which consistently refers to Social Security in terms like "train wreck" (to quote CBS Evening News).  It is neither.  The fact is, we pay into Social Security our entire lives:  therefore, it's DEFERRED COMPENSATION when we go to collect it, not an "entitlement.."  If people making over $118,500 annually had to pay into the system at the same proportionate rate as the rest of us, the system would be healthy and sustainable.  We should insist on this.  And rather than spewing libertarian bumper sticker-tripe, we should insist on the truth about it being told in all its depth.  It's an easily solvable problem--if anyone has the courage to demand it.

@steele2neal @drliberty That and stopping the government from stealing from Social Security to cover the war budgets. Somehow Social Security never gets paid back, and the solution is to just kill it so they never have to pay it back either.

@steele2neal @drliberty "-unless we continue to allow contributions by those who are wealthy to be capped at a given income level"

In other words, it's sustainable, but only if we take more money from more people. (Specifically, a small percentage of them.)  Geez, man. ALL things are sustainable that way.

ALL WE HAVE TO DO is shake people down and force more money out of them to pay for our lifestyle.
      steele2neal
      steele2neal 5ptsFeatured
@Playanekes @steele2neal @drliberty Nice try, but you've missed the point.  No one's "shaking people down."  Those who earn more aren't paying their PROPORTIONATE share.  If you make $118,500 a year, and I make $2.5 million a year, it isn't fair that you and I both pay the same amount into the system because I will benefit from the system at a higher rate than you will.  Libertarians frequently use the "Social Security is a wasteful fraud" meme to back up their calls to dismantle it, but it's a disingenuous argument.  I'm all for living within our means and balancing our budgets (both "conservative" principles that "Conservatives" like to spout but don't seem to actually want to do).  The problem seems to be, however:  we don't spend our money on the right things.  In my view, we shouldn't be funding a bloated military that doesn't even want the items we earmark, promoting foreign misadventures by meddling in governments we find "un-American," and propping up oil dictators.  We should, instead, fully support our veterans, our seniors, the U.S. Postal Service (still the best bang for the buck--especially if you live in rural "red-state" America), and fix our massively crumbling infrastructure.  But then, that would be cost-effective...and it makes too much sense.  Why not just build a bunch of high-tech planes to drop bombs on Third World countries instead...and we can pay for it by dismantling our social safety net.  Great idea.

People should at the very least, have been to Denmark and experienced it for themselves before the go spouting off with an uninformed opinion.  Too bad that won't ever happen.  Having been to Denmark before, I have to say, it is really nice there, and the people that live there like it a lot and have a very high quality of life.

For example, at the train stations, there are 100s of bike parked while people ride the train into Copenhagen to work.  They have these little locks that go across the back spokes (you could just pick the bike up and carry it away), yet no bikes are stolen.  There is hardly any crime.  Drug addiction and suicide rates are very low.  There are very few if any homeless (did not see one homeless person or have anyone approach me to beg in Copenhagen).  Great food, nice friendly people, even young women are not afraid to walk around Copenhagen late at night.

But sure, it's terrible if you listen to all the people who have never been there, and don't really know what they are talking about.

      drliberty
      drliberty 5ptsFeatured
@brewhaha Yes. I have family there as well, so I can easily tell who is giving the usual tourist "socialism works in Scandanavia" trolls from those folks who have had to actually live there. The reason every rides a bicycle is the 180% auto tax (  a Toyota Camry coats about $100,000 USD), coupled with the 90% fuels tax. Automobiles are priced out of the range of the average person. Denmark isn't reaping the benefits of the leftist policies put in place in the 1970's, but the strong market bases economies of Scandinavia that existed for a century prior. In short, Scandinavia thrives DESPITE the leftist economic policies. And as this story points out, the Utopian dream is running out of capital to keep it afloat.

brewy, I also have family there and agree with drliberty.
Their tax rates are exceedingly high. During a 70's visit, a relative noted they were taxed 100% above $250,000. Hard to accumulate wealth at that level. As far back as the 70's, wait times for a medical procedure was a half to a full year.
And like DrL mentioned, the cost of a vehicle is extremely high.  A visiting younger relative told us our VW Touraeg was a "luxury" car that with a back seat would likely cost over $140,000. We paid $30k.
Yes, its a wonderful place to visit and they are proud of their heritage. But they also understand the perils of unlimited immigration and have taken measures to control it and not loose that heritage.
