Morgan Schneiderlin is hopeful that Manchester United will challenge for the Premier League title next season under Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho was officially appointed as Man United’s manager last week, bringing to an end months of speculation surrounding the Portuguese.
Meanwhile, Schneiderlin recently received a late call up to France’s 23-man squad for the European Championships this summer following an injury to Lassana Diarra. The midfielder praised Mourinho in a recent interview.
“As everybody knows Jose is one of the best coaches in the world,” Schneiderlin said.
“I spoke to Diarra and he only said good things about him. I’m really looking forward to working with Mourinho, finding out his methods & winning back the title at Manchester United.”
Schneiderlin had a reputation as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League when United signed him from Southampton last summer but his debut season at Old Trafford didn’t exactly go to plan.
When Schneiderlin played well, his excellent reading of the game, combined with some tough tackling, meant he gave his teammates an excellent platform to build on. But a lack of consistency meant he struggled to hold down a regular starting spot under Louis van Gaal.
Mourinho is known to build his sides around strong players in the middle of the park and you would think that, on the face of it, he would like Schneiderlin and his style of play. The hope is that Schneiderlin is afforded a new lease of life under the former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss.
