Can we not have a whole summer of "What happens to X under Mourinho?" posts?

None of us know.

Reddit experts know everything mate.

Can't believe everyone keeps forgetting this

[–]TheBelgianMicrophoneGet Well Soon Shaw <3 2

Don't you want to people to share their opinion on what might happen though? This is a discussion forum after all!

[–]Crusty_Gammon_Flaps 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

I think he will probably stay. We haven't seen him play for us properly because he just kept getting played out of position until the end of the season when he actually had some good games.

Why would he be sold, Mourinho loves that kind of player.

Lol no he doesn't. Name me one player remotely similar to Fellaini that Mou have used during his coaching career

That kind. Doesn't mean he'll love Fellaini. I was baffled by how often LVG relied on him. I could never imagine managers like Ancelotti, Pep, Wenger ect having him in their squad. Let alone using him.

For someone who is so keen on possession it makes no sense to stick Fellaini in the center. And before anyone says he's there for headers, look how short Barca's lineups usually are. I don't see them conceding a goal every corner lol. Our fully fit best XI is quite tall anyway

I think he'll be sold but who knows.

All I know is if he's starting as much as he previously has then I'll be disappointed. We shouldn't be starting midfielders because they can only head and chest the ball ffs

Edit: upon giving it extra thought, i don't even think Mou likes the type of player Fellaini is in the first place.

Matic is nothing like Fellaini. And Mou never bought fellaini type players while at Madird or Inter either

Well it came out that Fellaini was one of a few players who listened to criticism of v Gaal and the coaching staff, so I can understand why v Gaal wanted to play him. He might not be the best player but he was effective in some games and had the right mentality in my opinion. I can't see him starting that much under Mourinho, but who knows.

I think he did actually offer something last season and I think we missed him during the West Ham game. He isn't an exceptional player but his stature can make up for that. I think the criticism of him is somewhat unwarranted and his treatment is unfair.

Perhaps it's a case that Ibrahimovic (should we sign him) can offer that stature but I don't think he's as aggressive a player as Fellaini who, despite his shortcomings, does have pretty good range to get back and forth.

Van Gaal utilised him brilliantly in the first season however unfortunately it didn't pay off so well in the second. With that said, there were games where it paid off.

Because of how limited he is I don't think he's going to be a first team player next season if he stays. That said, he's always a good asset to have.

We should keep him, I think.

I sort of agree but if Mourinho wants to bring in a midfielder, I won't be sad to see him leave before our other midfielders.

No he doesn't. Fellaini is useless if not used as a target to hoof the ball at, when has Mou ever used a player like that?

Hopefully he gets sold.

Mate, he was one of our best players in the last third of the season. It's because we played him in his position, and we didn't do long balls. He was amazing for Everton. The class he had there won't just dissappear.

We're never going to reach the heights we were once at with someone as limited as Fellaini starting. And I can think of better impact players to have on the bench too. Even Andy Caroll would offer all Fellaini does + more.

Genuienly there's not a single top manager I can think of that would use Fellaini as often as LVG did. It's incredible how we've sunk so low that being great at headers and chesting the ball is all that's needed to play lol.

The thing is I don't even think he was bad this season. But if he's still anywhere near the starting lineup when the PL starts then Mou would've had a disastrous window. And Fellaini won't settle for being only rarely used so I think it's best if he goes.

You can't say you want Fellaini in CAM then question why our midfield is so uncreative. As soon as he's in the lineup, our tactics are usually lump the ball to him or play down the wings. Suddenly the thought of quick passing and playing down the center goes out the window since Fellaini is slow and has awful vision.

In what world. He had 2 good games. One of them being against Everton which was his best game ever for us. But that doesn't justify him staying. He has had time to prove his worth and has failed, he needs to go .

I don't have a clue. I'm sorry.

He doesn't really seem like a Mourinho player too me. Fellaini may not get much game time

I suppose if he kept mikel, he could find a role for fuzzy.

He'll never be seen again.

He is an average player, but in EPL we need his phisical presence against physical teams like stoke, west ham...

that's just stereotypical nonsense

This is a common misconception. We don't need physical presence if we produce quality football to break down opponents. The only physical presence truly required relies on the centre backs and maybe -but not necesarilly- on one of the CMs, or the DM.

What about attacking and defending setpieces? Good football doesn't really help you there.

It does. Positioning and overall good defending and correct marking. It's not all about being shit but having tall players. As someone else pointed out, you don't see Barça conceding in every set piece.

That's retarded. Everyone needs a physical presence. It's a physical game and if Allardyce and Pulis can just bully us around and score from most of their free kicks then we'll be pretty fucked.

This isn't baseball.

As I said, the only physical presence needed are the centre backs. If you have to rely on some tall guy who plays like shit instead of good positioning and correct marking by shorter players, clearly something isn't right. One more reason LvG had to go.

We only need his physical presence because our team was badly managed. If we get a proper strong CB beside Smalling then already Fellaini's use dwindles. Jose will also probably buy a strong midfielder - the Matic type - which again will reduce his game time. For all his huff and chest control, Fellaini isn't good enough for a top club.

[–]AculeusManchester United 0

Not only for Fellaini, but I assume that Mourinho is going to want to atleast work with most of the players first before he decides who he wants to keep and who he wants to let go, I doubt we'll may of our regulars leave this summer.

[–]AveLuciferGiggsy!

He becomes Stormzy's hypeman.

He will play the CUNT Also open spaces with his elbow for Zlatan during corners

Should be kept. He adds something different to our squad that we lack without him for now. I think Jose will keep him.

I'm glad someone else sees some value in what Fellaini offers. I'm sick of hearing how useless he is, seemingly because he is an unfashionable player. His games against West Ham (away) and Everton in the FA cup were superb. He's show great character too, given how clearly unloved he is by fans. Always unfairly scapegoated due to being a symbol of the Moyes era. Deserves a role in the squad, without question.

I knew a pro Fellaini circle jerk would arise just because he was decent by the end of the season. LOL.

We should definitely keep him. Good mentality and he can be very useful as he has shown over the last 2 seasons.

he has shown over the last 2 seasons.

Don't make me laugh.

Reckon he will be a great fit great, he bring a lot of hold up play, aerial threat, great at defending set pieces, making a nuisance of himself in play

True. But if we get Zlatan, who I think does all of these things, do we still need to keep Fellaini? Or will he be converted to a proper DM under mourinho.

Doubtful, Fellaini doesn't have the technical ability to do that. Having two tall players attacking a side will be great, Fellaini can get knockdowns and Zlatan can bully CB's, which we've sort of missed since RVP left

The only place I can see fellaini in mourinho's system is as a defensive midfielder. Mourinho will try to change his play style from a box to box midfielder to a no nonsense anchorman. Fellaini does have the attributes to be a makelele, high work rate, aggresiveness, tall, strong. However, he has glaring mistakes too,m as he is hardly "no nonsense", he is ill-disciplined and prone to losing concentration. Moyes gave him a go as defensive midfielder and we all know how it went.

Moyes is no mourinho, so we have no idea how he will do this time round. The ball is in fellaini's hair. It is up to him impress otherwise he is a goner.

Fellaini can't do a fair tackle. He will give away so many fouls from dangerous areas if played deeper.

Playing as a DM and giving away a foul every time he jumps for the ball 30 yards from goal? No thanks.

I think peopl overrate fellaini on this sub

Everyone shits on Fellaini in this sub. Hard to imagine one of the most disliked, criticized guys on the squad being overrated.
