Serious question and I'm ready for the downvotes...

Can someone fill me in on why it's bad for the peasants to "steal mods" and copy them to the consoles? I understand that the guys who mod really deserve credit considering they do most if not all of their work for free but isn't the whole point of modding to make awesome content freely available to everyone? What is the problem with someone else expanding an original creators mod to a new platform?

Obviously this guy is being a douche bag but would this be an issue in general?

I can understand this guy is angry at what's happening, but he's acting like a complete ass. He's ripping on stuff with nothing to do with what's happening too; some standouts are asking people to cripple themselves, shitting on leftest, and public education. Okay this is the last thing I'm adding on to this, since I don't like getting downvoted because people don't like what im saying. I'm not asking for you to agree with me but; this guy is not reacting to this situation well, and i'm bringing this point up because it has to do with how the pc community is seen. This is one of the first cases of an issue that we're going to have to deal with if this whole modding on consoles thing sticks, and if so someone who responds to this in a way that can set a example of how it should be dealt with a larger company who doesn't seem to care given the state of their mod site. If we can present ourselves as reasonable people rather than someone abrasive like this; I believe we can foster a better relationship with them, and be able to fix BS like this faster. Ill redact the part about not feeling to bad for him, I do feel bad for him, but I would feel worse if he wasn't so harsh.

"Console Peasant" here (hopefully not for much longer though). On this matter I do agree with you guys. If proper credit/links to original nexus topic was posted, or permission from the creator was given this would not be as bad, but without any of those things, it makes the console community look worse than it usually does.

If I see any of this personally, I will report it, I use nexus for stuff like skyrim, older fallouts and dragon age because I can actually play those on my crap laptop.

As a console gamer, anyone who can create a ok-AMAZING mod for a PC game should get 100% credit for any other use of it for anything. I know nothing about modding. And to be honest I don't want mods on my console. I'm pretty sure it's the developers that need to fix something If people are modding it in/out/ to fix it (ya ok I lied I know a little about mods) and the developers are the ones that can decided what is and isn't In the game. It's not the people's chose how they want something to be done, if they want that switch to PC. blah blah blah I can't afford one though, well by the sounds of it you don't need the highest end PC to do everything (getting that right?). And mods shouldn't be stollen from the creators. That like plagerizing on a essay. Credit needs to go where I needs to go. Pretty sure my opinion isn't cared about and I'm going to get crap for not reading the article, and down voted to oblivion because I started w/ I'm a console gamer, but what ever, this subreddit is cool and funny sometimes.

This is atrocious. These beggars are surely going to erode the community. Give the CoD conslow players mods, and they'll do everything to turn them into an online hell. I am surprised Bethesda even trusts console users to be able to manage their own load order. Considering half the PC community cannot even install mods from the Nexus, I do not even want to know how bad Xbone players will screw it up. Mods are by PC, for PC. Anyone who is primarily on PC and assists the peasants is to be considered a traitor. Why would any talented mod maker do anything for the consoles? I do not understand this. It is deeply disturbing as of late.

Too all the console players wondering why they are disliked, this is yet another reason. They are stealing our hard work, that the PC community has created for free. They may claim that they deserve mods, but they do not. I'm sure there will always be people on consoles willing to milk the system they have arranged for them. I will mention this the next time one of the PC-wannabe scrubs that play Fo4 on Xbone try to make a case for them being 'worthy' of our mods.

I really don't see why it is an issue that consoles have mods, obviously people where going to make them work on console if the developer didn't. Mods borrow and lend from one another all of the time. What I am aware is that this was not sold, it was simply made available to people who want it, isn't that what the creator did anyway?

Why is it an issue if someone makes your freely-available content more freely-available? You can't steal a free cookie. Phrases like "This is why we hate your console faggots" which is a direct quote from the modder are not ok.

if more than 6 years of being a lurker OF XDA FORUMS has taught me something is, that is not bad to everyone to want something you have (i know is not a justification to the thief to be an asshole), what is happening is and actual good thing for both parts

let me explain... it is like the old days in xda and android development where there was a mod for a phone but it was not available for a shit ton of other phones and the creator did not want or can not work to develop on other phones, since the code is open other people CAN STEAL IT and do a lot of things and improves, think out of the box and make their own things... AND LEARN TO DO IT...

my point is, you guys find this threat as a DIRTY PEASANTY, while i am glad the console player are able to mod their games that is amazing tbh, and is their first step on "independency", and the second point is that it will happen a shit ton of times more so...

XDA developers Forum is an amazing site full of people that are open to share "and build things together" and was developed in a lot of years... i am pretty sure that will be the future of modding for both pc and consoles

Bethesda's now fucked up for a second time, last time it was paid mods, this time it's console mods and how they're are just so many bigots (it's not like we don't have any here either, just that it's more mainstream).

We, PCMR had something great here, we thought sharing our toys with the other kid would be fun, instead Mr. Meanie decided he wanted it all to himself, and justified stealing through saying "Oh you brought them and wanted to share, sharing means I can have them, and I can take them home!". And then the teacher comes along and says "Oh now you can only play with the toys we have" (an analogy for how you can't easily pop in a NEXUS or LOVELAB mod without modding the game and you need to go through bethesda.cancer).

It might be a good idea to just remove Bethesda.net's cancer and just let it be a homepage for Bethesda, no mods just a portfolio.

Back when I installed mods on my RGH'd 360, using known mods like that, it simply meant that I didn't have to convert it myself.

One example is the skyrim weather system mod, "Frostfall" IIRC. I knew it wasn't made by that guy and he just converted it and reuploaded it, and it could of been converted better tbh, but it's not like I didn't know that it was made by someone else.

Now this is different because it is a very different scenario given that modding on consoles can be done without tampering. In a reputation driven system like this where modding is open and allowed, don't be a dick. Give the guy some credit.

I still keep my RGH'd 360 under my desk, I should go back to it some time.

Bethesda should use a login system which corresponds to your gaming system. For example, you'd sign in through Steam and you must own Fallout 4 to be able to view a certain forum or something.

I can see this being an issue for all time ever. If there were a need for pc players to steal xbox mods then they would and wouldn't give credit. Happens everywhere (i.e repost on reddit) and will continue to as long as there isn't a legal incentive in place, but we know how everyone felt about paid mods. Really I think it sucks that these people don't get credit, but it only sucks as much as artist not getting credit when someone uses their art or comics or whatever.

While I do not support people stealing mods, I do think we should all note one thing: the reason they are playing on console is because they, most likely, can't on PC. Now the guy who stole the mod knew it wasn't his, but I guarantee most of the people who were supporting him didn't know. All in all this is about people's hard work being stolen. Getting shit to run reliably on consoles already struggling to run the main game is an excruciating effort so it's very understandable that most modders stick to what they know, or maybe their ambitions are out of console reach. Whatever their reasoning, it's their fucking work.

On PC we're used to installing and reinstalling, taking backups, broken saves, troubleshooting and crashing, but console owners expect pristine stability. If I was a mod author I honestly would never even consider getting it to run on consoles. Systems so locked down I'd have trouble troubleshooting my own shit even moreso than on PC.

If it's not on console by the original author, maybe it's just not meant to be. Maybe they're against being used as a marketing ploy for Bethesda to toy with. Maybe they're having none of it. Whatever the reason you fucking respect their decision or they'll just stop making shit alltogether and you'd have ruined it for all of us. Like, holy shit fucking egoistic little twats, stop feeling so fucking entitled.
