They didn't really explain why they had a chef and a Hollywood star. Or the fact that they had a whole new track layout and car. I enjoyed it before when they got a new car and a dozen random celebs turned up to fill the leader board. Give me Jimmy Carr and random page 3 models!

I watched it because, Top Gear, right?

But I've never forward-winded an episode so much before, everything was either too Chris Evans-y, jumping around like a twat and pretending he's on the Big Breakfast with cars, or just left me feeling underwhelmed when I compared this iteration to Clarkson and co, e.g. the interviews were shite, this is meant to be Evans' forté, but Clarkson got so much more out of them.

At least Le Blanc was sufficiently self-deprecating and showed some decently dark humour.

The main disappointment for me was not seeing enough Sabine or Chris Harris (in particular), like, watch this video of his and tell me he wouldn't do a better job of talking through a car than the rest of them.

This weekend I may become an "official" Level 2 coach. "UEFA C coach" sounds better, why did they have to change that name?? We'll see how the assessment goes, but even if I don't pass I've really learned a lot. After that, I'll see if I can address my desire to learn more about scouting.

By the way: PM me if you're interested in reading the contents of an official "Intro to Scouting" course. I want to take the online course but it's too expensive for what it is, so if several of us chip in I will capture the contents and send it to everyone that chipped in. PM me.

I've started reading the Game of Thrones books again, and holy shit - reading them the second time around is so much better. Knowing the direction that everything goes (as far as we know), its astounding how he managed to write such a complex web of characters and events, that all leads back to those few first chapters.

Would recommend to anybody else thinking of doing the same as this season draws to an end.

Yeah man, I've been reading a lot of /r/asoiaf too since the start of the TV season, and there's so many theories about things that totally flew over my head when I read them the first time round. Now I'm reading with a much more 'inquisitive' mindset (rather than just rushing through the narrative to find out what happens) and it's a very different experience.

Also, there's apparently a chapter thats been released from the Winds of Winter if you're interested - though I haven't looked for it myself as I want to save it for later.

to pass the time in waiting for the next book. i can really reccomend the following:

  • Kingkiller Chronicles (2 of 3 books released so far) - this is going to be the next big TV hit as it just got signed up for a show. read it now before it gets overkill. These books are just un-put-down-able

  • Mistborn series - just an epic long adventure about an empire in ruins with special born people who have extraordinary talents (won;t spoil it too much) - there's a full series of them and they are great

I've read The Name of the Wind - and loved that. But I found the second one to get pretty boring halfway in and I lost interest. It seemed to be stuck in a sort of cycle of him getting close to Denna, her disappearing, some awful thing happening to him because of Ambrose, rinse repeat.

I'll have to give it another go though - any idea when the series is coming out?

Mistborn is another one that I've been recommended, but my inkling is that it might be a little too magic based for my tastes (I'm more a fan of the intrigue side of ASoIaF if that makes sense) - though maybe I'm just making baseless assumptions?

yeah totally agree on the second KkC book, did you finish it though? it definitely gets better towards the end. The whole Denna thing is a bit of a slog. Although tbf when A feast for crows came out in 2005 i struggled to get through that. I think all these series have a bit of a tough bit at times!

Mistborn isn't really magic at all. It's probably a similar level of that kind of thing to KkC or the dragons in aSoFaI. It's more fantasy and actually relates more than a lot of fantasy series. You should check it out. I was a bit skeptical at first but love it now. I'm on the second trilogy at the moment.

If that's not really your thing then try the Conqueror series by Conn Iggulden - now that is an epic series. It's all about Genghis Kahn and is awesome.

Nah I didn't finish it, I'll have to give it a bit more time as on the whole I liked the story and the characters/setting.

Agree with you completely about AFFC - luckily with that one I was racing to read it before that TV season came out, so that was enough motivation to push through the dull parts.

I've not heard of the Conqueror series, so I'll look into that - and maybe pick up the first in the Mistborn series and see how I get on with that - thanks! :)

Mistborn is heavily focused on its magic system but the magic is itself relatively limited (allomancy is very physical). It ends up with the fights being very super-hero like rather than giant blasts of magic.

Hmmm interesting. See that sort of puts me off because I'm not that much of a general/high fantasy fan to be honest.

I really like ASoIaF, and what I've read of Robin Hobb's books because they're more 'realistically' focused on plot and intrigue/politics - not that I know if Sanderson's books don't have that, its just the blurbs or whatever I've heard about them sound very magic focused.

I tend to choose carefully when it comes to fantasy books because its generally such a massive commitment.

Listen to the audio books when I used to work nights. Would also recommend them, Roy Dotrice voices them, gives everyone a different voice and accent. He got a part in the second series, he was the pyromancer

Really worried IF Peps City clicks.

We dominated possession every game and we had some really shit players trying to break down teams.

City have Gundogan, Silva, Sterling, De Bruyne, Aguero to break down defensive teams.

We had Depay, Rooney, Lingard, Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin.

Pep is a better manager than LVG, will have better players as well.

If it clicks, I think we're fucked as when the possession style does work it's brilliant.

I disagree. His crosses are consistently very good and he's at least usually standing in the right area for a left back unlike Rojo. Everyone knows he's 2nd choice to Shaw.
