Gary Johnson, a former governor of New Mexico is running for president, and since running his wikipedia page has garnered over half a million views, he has been covered by every major news outlet, he is already garnering 10% in national polls and has now chosen another former governor (Bill Weld) to be his running mate. Lol I love Ron Paul, Gary Johson, etc. but there is no way in hell they will win the election. A more reasonable goal is to get 15% of the vote so that libertarians can participate in the debates

I can dig. The 15% argument is a big selling point for me though. It's much easier to convince someone who isn't voting due to hating Trump and Hillary to vote for the purpose of adding another party to the debates than it is to get them to vote for a candidate that they think has no chance.

The easiest sell to the disenfranchised Rs and Ds is that they don't actually have to vote for Gary they can just tell the pollsters that they are.

Then of course after he gets to participate in the debate and the Rs and Ds have had a chance to hear the libertarian message, hopefully they will decide to actually vote for him.

If Johnson breaks 15 and gets into the TV debates, I expect his popularity will climb significantly.

He's not exactly a great public speaker, it'll climb as more people get to know him but he's not gonna outpoll either of them. This is definitely the liberty movement's best chance to get some real recognition and be taken seriously so we should definitely support Johnson to the best of our ability.

The real goal is to prevent Trump or Hillary from receiving the 270 required to win the election outright. That means Johnson needs to win some delegates. The good thing is that in a 3-way race it may only take 30-35% in any given state to win delegates. That's not much more than half of the current "independent" electorate.

If nobody wins 270, I believe that a Republican House would pick Johnson over the other two.

To do this, we need more exposure. Many people do not even realize the Libertarian Party exists. LP door hangers are only $.05 each. If active members on this sub would spend just a couple dollars and distribute, we could cover a large portion of the population without much effort.

I'm hoping with the influx of donations and the pending super PAC donations Johnson's campaign gets a serious boost in merchandise as well. Right now what's available on his official store is a little lackluster to say the least.

No we can't. The chance isn't "pretty big." It's along the lines of .01%. That being said the debate stage is within reach, as is getting the 5% of the actual votes which would get the LP public funding and help improve acquiring ballot access easier. Plus it would really spread the libertarian message. It would also really get noticed if he proves to be a major spoiler in any important state.
