We already tried an alternative means of chatting through Carrot, a chatroom that's integrated with reddit. Surprisingly, it doesn't seem to have gone as well as you would have expected.

Honestly, carrot doesn't look that appealing lol.

Plus Slack has a phone/desktop app, and a lot more cooler features.

edit: ok carrot has a phone app as well, but it's not supported in my region.

There are quite a number of reddit integrated chat options that'll make it a lot easier for our members to sign up with and chat. Breaker, Orangechat and Carrot are just a few examples of chat servers that use the reddit API and offer multiple platforms. Users can simply use their reddit account to log in and we can keep track of who's who whilst weeding out trolls who come in just to mess with us.

You are right in terms of user base. I've taken a look at all those chats you shared. I'd say Carrot is probably the best out of all of them. But it's still very buggy (I can't join the /r/reddevils chat).

I suggest that people join all the different chats, and vote on which one they like the most. We will work on making that happen.

Tbf it's not the chatroom that's been the issue. There just hasn't been much of a response from the people here when concerning an external avenue for chatting especially when there isn't much going on. The carrot room was relatively fine during matchdays but people still preferred our match thread to it.

I reckon we can still give this a shot and see if it works any better though.

I love this idea! I don't know why we didn't think of this earlier. I understand that match threads serve almost the same purpose, but I'd like to have a live chat during match games.

So we integrated IFTTT from /r/reddevils and United's Twitter account into the chat so we somehow how a feed of submissions from here and updates from United on Twitter.

If anyone knows any news feed solely on united (could be players lifestyle, transfer rumors, or even some trivial info), please let me know and I will see if I can integrate it into the chat.
