...for I have received the ultimate lesson in wehrabooism from my electricity teacher.
He tends to idle a lot on a diversity of subjects (out of a four-hour class with him, only one to two hours will actually be dedicated to teaching). And today, for reasons I was too asleep to understand, he started ranting on Europeanism and how Americans are so uncultured and ignorant. He was already spewing bullshit, but the gold started when an older colleage of mine challenged his views with an innocent "you have to admit though, they're one of the most advanced countries in the world and they've got a lot of influence and presence in Europe..." comment.
But who invented the computer? Who invented the jet engine? The Germans!
You have to give the Germans respect. I'm not fond of what they did, but they fought off billions of soldiers from the Soviet Union, the USA, the UK, France...
They had jet aircraft, the V-somethings, and I heard that if they had put them in production five years earlier they could have won the war. Much of WWII was fought in the air, and the advantage that a jet aircraft has over an airplane that can only do 300 or 400 km/h is tremendous.
This is when a grey-haired student mentions that Germany "had 10 years to prepare for war".
But they were decimated after the First World War and the Versailles Treaty.
Well, at least he admitted that the Third Reich's biggest mistake was starting the war to begin with.
I'm sorry that I do not have a recording or a more reliable transcription, but I felt this was worth reporting. Also, I need to vent.
